Clarify a sentence

Yeah, I had one of those go out.

Mine never did throw a code, but the symptom was the car would start fine and run fine until it was just before warming up. Then for about 2 minutes it would sputter and almost die, or it would die if I couldn't keep the rpm's up. And if it did die, it was difficult to get it started again. Once the car got completely warmed up, it ran fine again.

The service manual says the trouble symptoms are 1:Failure of the engine to start, 2:Erroneous idling, and 3:Poor driving performance.

That little monster is located on the driver's side, on the back of the engine. It's a 2 wire connector that (at least on mine) has a bronze color to it, and fastens directly onto the sensor instead of wires leading out from the sensor. Theres another 1 wire connector directly above it. They both are pointing toward your steering wheel, straight back.

You may have to remove your intake boot to see it. I am writing this by looking at my parts car, and the intake boot has already been removed. My head is about where the brake fluid reservoir is, and I'm looking under, and just to the inside of the intake manifold. It's directly across from the most inside cylinder, on the back of the engine. My wife has taken off with the camera for some Charity cancer thing this morning. I will snap a shot of it when she returns around noon or so.

The service manual says that the resistance between the 2 terminals should be around 30k at 68*F and should be around 400ohms at 176*F

I always get the prices of the sensors mixed up, some are $20, others are over a hundred. If I'm not mistakened, I think this is the $20 sensor. I would check subaruparts.com to be sure. It isn't difficult at all to replace.

A common problem for Subaru's. We replace them all the time. Part # 22630AA041, retail is $26.95.

It's the cheaper of the 2 sensors so that's a good thing.

It's part #8 here:
