Question where's the starter relay located at?

hi all, my svx has the little starting problem!

the svx has tried two new starters & had all the connections checked. i had cleaned the battery terminals too. it still has the same problem.

now, the last two bets will be the starter relay & ignition switch.
my mec fren said the ignition switch should be good, and is turning smooth. i should go for the starter relay first. now, the problem is, we don't know where's the starter relay located at? we need to find out the starter relay is....and check....

does anyone know where's the starter relay located at? could you please tell me how to locate it? i've never seen one...so i don't how does it look...i believe my mec fren did....if there's pic of it will be nicer.. thanks in advance. merry x'mas y'll.

Power to starter solenoid starts at ign switch, goes to starter interrupt relay (near as I can tell it's under left side of dash and should be first item on harness after it comes through firewall) then through inhibitor switch (known as neutral start switch to most - located on side of tranny.)

WAG - I'd be more tempted to suspect inhibitor switch as it's under car and subject to moisture damage. I'd look there first.

p.s.

The interrupt relay is a normally closed relay and should only open when alarm goes off, that's why I would doubt that it's the culprit.

Beav, is the inhibitor switch still operable, or did they upgrade it out when they removed passive arming to the security system? I've had my security system go off a few times (didn't have remote when first got the car), however, I was still able to start it. I thought you weren't supposed to be able to start the car without going through some elaborate mumbo-jumbo, if you allowed the alarm to go off.

Inhibitor switch is Subaru's fancy-schmancey name for a range indicator sensor or, as in more colloquial (and partially correct) terms, a neutral start switch. With or without an alarm no manufacturer would want the liability of a car that would start in any gear. Can you say Mike Wallace or yellow journalism? (for the record I still don't know why Audi doesn't own CBS)

The diagram I'm referencing is for a '93 SVX. They may have made changes to the alarm portion of the circuit but the minimal items included in the circuit will still be the ignition switch, the inhibitor switch (sounds like something most of my teenage girlfriends had) and the starter solenoid.

I remember my '92 being a PITA regarding that danged alarm. I just wanted the remote locks, if it wasn't for them I would have ripped that alarm out. I can't tell you how many times I had to re-program the alarm. Next SVX I own you can bet that'll be the first thing to go. $50 and a trip to Sam's and I'll have remote locks and start with no hassles.

Okay, I just revisited the diagram. I was using the wrong terminology. I was actually referring to what is called the "Starter interrupt relay." I believe this was the relay that was supposed to keep the car from starting if your alarm went off after the allotted "countdown" time.

I've really not had any trouble with my alarm. It was a PITA when I didn't have a remote (Locking the door, passive arm, open with key, countdown, etc. EEK!). I've never had to re-program my remote since I replaced the unit with a used unit about two years ago (right after Reading I). I even backed off the sensitivity a bit, when I put the replacement unit in so that it would quit going off when the windshield popped.
