Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

Some of the information we have is exact, and some is "rounded off".

On information Earl has compiled above he includes the US figure of 14,257. This appears to be an exact production number. However, up to now we have had no confirmation whether this figure also included the figure we have for Canada.

Based on Ron's recent deduction that US and CAN cars both have the same Applied Model Code designation, we can make an assumption that this figure probably includes the total for North America. It's not a 100% safe assumption, but considering the exact figures displayed on the Isuzu Piazza site year for year it's probably a very high 90's% assumption because these figures were most likely supplied from export AMC records.

Also I have on record a Subaru/Fuji chart showing production numbers of all their cars going back to the sixties. On this the Alcyone SVX is shown as an exact 24,379 units. This figure is a fair bit shy of Earl's listed 25,000 units, and being a Fuji supplied figure I'd suspect it is accurate and correct.

This post from Earl is an interesting one in more ways than one. I've already mentioned we are dealing with a series of anecdotal, inaccurate or just plain rounded off figures, and we don't have enough support documentation to verify what is real and what is estimated.

Just for starters let us assume and trust the World total SVX count is 24,379 units.

Now, making the following assumptions on Earl's breakdown figures:

USA..........14,279 not including Canada
Japan........5,951 assume exact and accurate for JDM
Europe......2,478 assume includes Germany but possibly not UK. i.e. LHD only
[Germany].....[854] assume included with Europe [LHD]
Canada.........942 assume not included with USA [similar model code different options]
Others..........518 South America, Levant and Middle East, Thailand, maybe others

Total........24,168 units.

This compared to a "known" World total of 24,379. The difference between these two figures is 211 units.

Now it might be obvious why I left the possibility that UK models [RHD] were not counted with European cars. We believe that native UK market SVXes are in the region of 250-270, very close to this figure.

Likewise the down Under [U code cars ] market figure is possibly round the 220 mark as well, so, is it possible their total is not included in the "Others" figure?

We do come nearer all the time to getting exact information.

Joe

Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

I have already done a compilation of which SVX models went to what markets based on the most current information we have. This list is categorised only by whichever gearbox the cars were supplied with. I did not segregate the USA figures for FWD gearboxes, I have no figures for that total. This list predated the recent very useful information on Applied Model Codes spearheaded by Ron.

Click on Download Document in the above URL, and save a copy of the list. Hopefully it will be useful to update this list as we get confirmed information from other countries.

Nice work on the spread sheet Joe,

You might like to see the data this way, per fuse box letter code.
I believe that I am the first to observe and catagorize these covers

A: LHD: ACT: USA/Canada
B: RHD: VTD: Japan
C: RHD: VTD: Australia/NZ
C: LHD: VTD: Paraguay/Brazil?
D: RHD: VTD: UK
D: LHD: VTD: Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg/Spain/Austria
: LHD: ACT: Germany/France/Swiss/

Pierre Olivier's car is BELGIUM, a 'D' code.

Further, Brazil could be a 'C' code, lacking headlamp washers or levelers. I am only assuming on Brazil

Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

I have 5951 total JDM [Paddles]

I have 1905 Version-L [Paddles]
I have 300 S40
I have 300 S40II
I have 500 S3

If 800 S4 is accurate, that leaves 2146 Version E
If 600 S4 is accurate, that leaves 2346 Version E

Using the 'round' numbers of JDM production for 1900 and 2200, I would assume that 800 is the correct production number for S4.

Unless and until we learn otherwise, I would say:

5951 total JDM, 2146 Version-E, 1905 Version-L, 300 S40, 300 S40II, 500 S3 and 800 S4 .

At least the numbers add up

They do add up Ron, but I distrust the "round" figures.

Using the production numbers per month produced by Phil in post #2 in this thread by subtraction [or by deduction if you prefer, Holmes] I get a total production of 5842 for all JDM models. This breaks down as follows:

1879 CXD

2456 Version E, first run

270 S40

367 S40II

373 S3

497 S4

There is no natural break to identify what is S3 and what is S4, or at least they seem to have used the same number sequence with no easily identifiable break [I used December as the break point]

These numbers are actually pretty close to your figures above. I am disappointed they came up short of the 5951 total, because I feel that higher figure for the total JDM may well be correct figure, probably published or provided by Subaru at some point. This breakdown above based on production numbers is low by 107 units, somewhere. But where?

Or quite possibly the "official" or accepted total is overstated by 107 units?

Joe

Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

How do you interpret the month by month production figures. Is the chassis number, the first one produced that month, or the last?

I think also there might be an overlap between CXD and CXW. So there might be VL and VE with the same serial number. I say this because if you go to that russian site and input JDM VINs, you can get info about the spec of each car (colour etc). And you get different info for CXD00nnnn and CXW00nnnn.

Actually that site could help you find the cutoff between the models because you know what models were available in what colours.

Re: Svx Models, How Many Produced?

A simple reply is that the S40 and Anniversary S40II are limited production.

We have an example in the US with the '93, with an exact 400 [or was it 300?] produced. So, why not an even 300, 300, 500, and whatever S4?

Yes, ALL JDM models have cover B, in Japanese

Canada is an option code of same US model, please post all numbers on the strut tower for the Canadian SVX, especially OPTION CODE.
