Cool

If you throw out all the stuff that you'd normally spend on any semi-luxury vehicle in a 2 year, 35K mile span, I've spent nothing in unexpected repairs. Sure, my $1,800 100K tune-up, belts & seals, one wheel bearing, etc. happened, my $2,800 paint job happened, but other than anal 3K oil changes, & one rotor & rear pads, & a used tranny resistor, it's been an acceptable life style.

Your smileage will definately vary.

Ron.

I've had Penny for just a tad over 3.25 years. In that time, the average yearly spenditure has been just over $4K.
Of course the two big-ticket items were tranny and paintjob.

But still ill have it running great at about 4k in total i dont think that is bad at all. And it looks like i will have a good job towards the end of the month. Anyone in WV need any light mechanical or electrical stuff done till then?

I have spent $3245 on my '94L since buying it new in March 1994 (for all service and repairs except oil changes).

Estimated cost including insurance, depreciation and fuel = $.29 per mile, just happens to be what company mileage allowance is.

Needs paint, total cost is gonna rise.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

The first year and a half of ownership I spent $2359.00 on repairs, this included a used auto tranny, and then swapping in a 5-speed, 2 wheel bearings, a front axle, and misc. stuff broke by the previous owner.

Since the 5-speed was installed (about 1 year 4 months) I've spent $810 on repairs which included a rebuilt steering rack, 2 wheel bearings(the same side ) and a new rear knuckle for the wheel bearing.

I'm hoping this year to do a little more on the looks of the car as I'm hoping not to have any major repairs to deal with.

Not Moneypenny, but Money Pit

Just did a rough check on my spend.

When I got the car in Feb 01, I spent approx $2590 to put it right.

Recently it has cost me approx $1900 for a service, parts and tranny repair.

Over the two years or so, tyres and tracking have cost about $700, but maybe a bit more.

This not-so-grand total comes to about $5100, but I know there are other incidentals I am not counting here.

This is about $2600 per year so far, but I am expecting a good spell as I have most problems covered [knocks feverishly on the wooden desk!!!]

Considering my mileage is about 19K per year, this is not too bad for a 12 year old exotic, but not cheap either.

Smiles per mile mean I regard it as good value.

Joe

Well...eh... I've owned my car for about 6 months, and here's my tally:

1. New tires: 600 dollars (yoko A550Vs)
2. New front rotors (raceconcepts.net): 180 dollars
3. New pads: 35 dollars
4. New trunk struts: 60 dollars (thanks mike)
5. SVX penlight and Keychain: 25 dollars
6. Fram Airfilter: 10 dollars
7. Oil and filters (2 changes) 50-60 dollars

Total: 960 dollars

All in all I really haven't spent that much. I got it at 133k, and now I'm at 141k. This thing has been very reliable. In the next 6 months I'll probably spend a lot more on it, due to some stupid ***** who ran into it. I'm getting the car repainted.

Talking Oh, what a lucky man... he was!

OK, this is the Honest to God's Truth...

Bought new in June of 1992, paid $22,947 (no sales tax in WA for Oregon buyers) which included a "lifetime oil & filter change every 3K miles" which the Mega-Dealership still honors at both the Subaru store in WA & at the Acura dealership which is much closer to home. Also bought an $1,100 aftermarket 7 yr/100k "ultimate wrap" extended warranty which had a ZERO deductable & was refunded to me 100% at the end of the 7 yr period because I had NEVER made a claim under this warranty.

Total expenditures for ALL service, routine maintenance, spare factory wheels & studded snow tires, two sets of summer tires, lifetime 4-wheel alignment, routine transmission services, pcv valve, wipers, brake pads/jobs, one replacement battery, misc. filters & fluids, ONE c/v joint service including new boots... I'm including EVERYTHING EXCEPT gas and insurance (one $50 deductable for a piece of side glass) comes to...

$2,907.50 I LOVE MY SVX!

I did have the transmission replaced @ 55,879 miles, the "squeeking dash" fix, no less than 4 (COUNT'EM!!!) sets of rear-wheel bearings (@ 43,507, 52,336, 64,015 & 85,103 miles) all of which were done under the Factory Warranty.

The last set of wheel bearings took about 15 phone calls to get them to cover 100%: I kept asking them "Well then, just HOW LONG ARE a set of wheel bearing supposed to last, after they have been INCORRECTLY installed UNDER WARRANTY THREE PREVIOUS TIMES?"

You can see why I am convinced this is one of the finest, most reliable and highest performing cars I have ever owned! My wife loves it: always has. I had to buy her an 420SEL Mercedes (a beautifully used '91 with 107K) to get her out of it as her commute to work car!

I forgot...

...to include timing belt & water pump replacement and replacement accessory belts are also in that $2,907 total.

And a K&N filter, too!

Um, is this meant to scare the crap out of me?

Well that would make it an average of about $4500/year US.

Let see, up here in Canada...double it and add 30....thats cuz we are metric....thats $9,030CAN. That means I'll have to cut down on some other things....Hmmmm.
It doesn't really get that cold here, don't need to pay for Natural Gas...Electricity? think I'll keep this one, Telephone, definately gone(PITA), eating out(cut down on the restarant part), High speed internet??, oh, wait, work pays for that already...hmmm, Taxes Hey, there's a good one, what else???
