Thumbs up Heated Mirrors

After reading about heated mirrors, I thought I would post this. The last couple of days, it has been clear and cool (2 deg F) and lots of frost on the pumpkin. Well, the last 2 mornings I have had frost on my mirrors. I was driving down the road when I noticed this, and I pushed the defrost button, and within 15 seconds, there was no more frost. It was all gone. It was fantastic!!! I had never done this before, so it was great to try it and see how it worked. At this point, I love this option, and am very glad that I have it.

(driving around the block looking for frost or dew)

Just remember to turn them off as there is no overtemp safety features. Someone on the Yahoo site had a story about flaming mirrors.

Yes, I turned them off as soon as they cleared the fog. That might be interesting - having flames shooting out of the mirrors.

The outside heated mirrors are great. I think it is good safety feature for foggy days.

Yeah, this really ticks me off. Why in the world couldn't they just use the same technology as they do with the rear window defroster. Is there a way to install a "timer" inline?

The other thing that happens (if the mirrors don't melt) is that you burn up the element, rendering them useless, unless you want to spend BIG BUCKEROONIES for replacement mirrors.

The mirrors are outside right? So they may never get warm like the inside of the car does when the heater is warming it. Even the rear window is going to warm up from the air inside the SVX and not need the window heating element. The timer makes sense here but I think the mirrors just need a little bit more attention from the driver.
