While I voted for the O5 Leg, Mayo makes a good point about the ease of a backwoods mech fixing it, should there be a problem.
That and since you said you may need to bring stuff back wth you, maybe the Jeep would be a better choice.

Cars
Hi Ken, Well it struck me that you will know the right choice after you get home from your trip. However, I do think the Jeep might be the way to go if your bringing stuff back. If it has a trailer hitch you could hang a trailer off the back and really bring a lot of stuff back if you had to. Have a safe trip and take care, BOBB

Well, whatever you do you must take one of the SVXes. My road trip was a blast and I had ZERO problems with my SVX...except that there was definitely a power loss in the 100degree florida temps ....My friends and I cruised to florida and back in two cars, SVX and an Altima. On the highway the Altima had to stop TWICE as much for gas then the SVX....with the SVX tachin at 2800RPMs for 80MPH, the altima was screaming at like 3500RPMs. I had to have been getting at least 450mpg for about a 16 gallon fill up.
All I can say is don't worry about the mileage. It feels like just yesterday I saw 47000 miles on the odometer ...............now it's 62000 ...that's about 15,000 miles in the one year that I've owned it. But it's just been real good to me with no problems, I'm not afraid to drive it anywhere. I don't know how your high mileage SVX is, but if it feels just as strong as your 97 then go for it ....other wise you must take the 97 Good luck

I vote 1992 SVX
Reason: SVX's were meant to be driven. Also, if something happens to it it can be replaced. If something happens to the 97 you probably won't find a replacement with that few miles. Second choice is the GT because it has warranty.

well it's the afternoon before we are scheduled to leave and i still haven't decided. looks like the voters are leaning towards the legacy. if i take the legacy, i will have to find a dealership in oklahoma (if there is one) and get him his first change of oil and filter. all the other vehicles are good to go.
if i go with the 97 svx, i will be sacrificing stereo sound quality. in the jeep, i will be giving up fuel efficiency (even though it's the only car in the fleet able to drink regular fuel). my heart is telling me to take the 92 svx. it has by far the highest mileage, but i try to keep it in good running condition. it has a decent sound system and i believe it will get the best gas mileage. unless someone has a good reason against it, i think i've made my decision.

Let's see....
92svx: Good gas mileage, good highway runner, no heated seats, difficult to find repair in the middle of nowhere unless you bring your own parts, only 1 airbag, limited space for bringign stuff home, no trailer hitch. 99 cherokee: "most comfortable vehicle i've ever owned", ok gas mileage, multiple air bags, easier to fix in the sticks, trailer hitch, much more space. 92 svx: 2600 miles R/T @ 26mpg (overall): 100 gallons @ $2.35/gal: $235 gas 99 cherokee: 2600 miles R/T @ 20 mpg (overall): 130 gallons @ @2.15/gal: $280 gas And really, why do you complain about the mileage...if you think about it the cost won't be too much different, and that assumes you get 30mpg on the highway; cuz if you don't and your mileage averages around 22 mpg, then the costs will be the same. So why sacrifice comfort just to save a few pennies. If I had a choice.....I wouldn't even consider anything but a Cherokee (in the winter time). |

okay, i think i need to clarify things:
1. the 1300 mile road adventure is round-trip. if we were making a 2600 mile trip for thanksgiving, we'd definitely be flying. 2. gas mileage is important just for the experience of achieving 30 mpg, not for cost of gas. as of right now. hubby finally told me his first choice. i guess it's all about having heated seats. his first choice is for the jeep. i'll post the next time we change our minds tonight.

SVXs weren't meant to be road trip cars. Take the legacy fool. The seats just arent compfy enough for a long trip.
