SCORE! and a Road Trip of a lifetime.

I just scored and bought an untitled manufacturer showroom Red 97 LSi with perfect interior/exterior/mechanical excellence that has never been in an accident/collision and is free if rust with only, get this, just over 19,000 miles on the car!!!

My dad is retired and is going to fly to the west coast with me to pick it up and drive it back to Georgia.

This is my second SVX. My daily is a Burgundy 92 LS-L w/ 135K on it...still running strong.

Do you know if I will be able to purchase a warranty from Subaru for this car?

If it has never been titled you should be able to... I assume this was a Manufacturer demo vehicle? Check with a local dealer (oops, that's me!) about Subaru's Added Security program... I'll get some info for you from our finance manager.

I bought it in Oregon. I wired a large lump sum of earnest money to the seller and had him sign and witness an earnest money agreement. The agreement requires the seller to initial each statement (there were 10) and to sign the bottom along with a witness signature. The statements include:

-the amount of earnest money to hold the sale of the vehicle.
-the vehicle has never been in an accident or collision and is free of rust.
-the vehicle has less X number of miles an will not exceed X number of miles (unless to drive to local dealship to have parts installed or to bring the car to a state of excellence.)
-seller will have the following items installed before I take delivery
a. driver side window switch
b. back portion of center console around the area of the hinged compartment door.
-car is of likeness to interior/exterior images as viewed at www..yadayada.
-seller understands he can keep both the car or money if Purchaser decides not to buy the vehicle for any other reason than the statements above being untrue.
-Seller agrees to contact the Purchaser immediately if any of the statements above are untrue, will disclose such information in detail, and allow the following options:
a. allow purchaser to negotiate a price lower than the asking price.
b. allow purchaser not to buy the car, in such event the seller must refund the earnest money in full.

Anyway, it is a little more detailed than that. It was first time making up such a document. It just documents the wire transaction, protects our rights, and is binding in the eyes of law so that I know it will still be there in the condition I expect and with the miles I expect.

The center console piece was ordered from Japan and should be installed before I pick it up next Thursday. I have a digital camera and will be sure to take lots of pictures.

By the way, this car was not a demo model, but a display model. Big difference I think. A demo would have been driven by dozens of different individuals interested in buying the car. This car was never for sale until now. It has just been to Car Shows and company meets.

My dad and I have not decided to go through Teton National forest and such (Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Misssouri, Tenneesee, Georgia) or our latest idea: Drive down the Oregon/California coastline until we hit San Fran, then cut east through Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Miss, Ala, Georgia.

Either way, we have to go across the Rockies which will be great. I am looking forward to see the Milky Way in its millions of colors out in the night skys of the middle of nowhere, free of light pollution, just as much as the first 1/2 of the drive. I'm very excited.

I'll be sure to make a mini-site documentary of the road trip and post many pictures of the SVX with different vista backdrops, as well as roads, sceneny, etc.

the 'earnest money agreement' seems like a great way to protect yourself. i was lucky to have an honest out-of-state seller, but i may want to do what you did if i ever make that type of purchase again. how did you do it? thanks for any info, and good luck on your trip. hope the SVX is all you hope it will be and more!
