Just bought my svx and am very happy to find this group. It is a 92 with 78000 miles,. The car has a factory rebuilt (by Subaru) transmission and new rear wheel bearings about 5000 miles ago. I am getting it ready to paint.
I really didn't know anything about an SVX a couple of weeks ago and still don't know much. The car runs great what a pleasure to drive. A couple of question: What is a good oil? Transmission fluid ? Any other fluid and routine maintenance stuff? |

congratulations, and welcome!
check out some of these sites for some more SVX info: http://www.subarusvx.com/ (great site with lots of info) http://my.voyager.net/~tmclane/ (good info here, too) http://www.ryanmacdonald.com/car/howto/howto.html (some how-to's) you'll probably get many opinions about oil, but i like Mobil1 synthetic oil, tranny fluid and differential gear oil. on high-mileage cars, synthetic oil can cause seals to leak because it cleans the crud out that was keeping the seal from leaking in the first place. i'm not sure if 78,000 is considered "high mileage", but you could use a seal conditioner first just to be safe if you want to go the synthetic route. otherwise, any decent brand of oil will work as long as you change it regularly. if your car doesn't have one already, you may want to consider an aftermarket tranny cooler, and maybe even an external tranny filter and tranny fluid temp gauge. enjoy the car!

Welcome to the site. What ever kind of oil you choose, buy good quality, good filters, and change it often. The tranny filter, cooler, and gauge is a good idea. Good luck and enjoy. You will learn lots hanging out around here.

Richard,
Welcome to the SVX family. I hope you have many miles of happy motoring. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil for the engine and either Red Line or Mobil 1 synth. ATF. Since the power steering unit uses ATF as PS fluid I use either Mobil 1 or Red Line ATF for the PS system. Put in an after maket ATF cooler and and ATF filter. Again, Good Luck.

Hey and welcome. Just start popping around the site and do a lot of searching. It's amazing how much info is archived here. As far as oil, like they said..quality!
I personally prefer Wesson. I think it leaves less of an after taste than some of the others. Just my opinion. Randy ii |

Welcome to the nut house, Richard. You'll understand you spend some time around here. I like to use synthetic, although it is really more of a peace-of-mind thing than anything else. Deffinitely don't skimp when it comes to maintenance of an SVX... they're just too cool for "cheap" treatment.
Like Kelli so eloquently put, "if you need any thing, just HOLLA!" This is a great place to get info on SVX related needs, and non SVX related ones, too. However, make sure you don't buy any "hooked up" SVX paraphanalia... search for the thread if you want to find out what that's about.

Me Too
I got my 94 about a month ago. I just got my perminent tags. I got really luck. I had a 97 mustang that I totaled just after Christmas and ended up driving a beater I picked up for a grand until last month. I had a day off and went driving around lucking at cars. I pulled into a hunydi/jag dealer and someone was trading in the SVX for a new Jag. The SVX only had 20,500 miles on it. An hour after he traded it in I was buying it for $8,000. Didn't really know what I had until I got home and started researching it. I new of the car. I had seen a couple before, but didnt know much about them.

Thanks to all
I am going to have to start driving like an adult soon. The Ticket on the transmission show a cooler installed. Is it behind the radiator? I will add the filter and guage. |

The tranny cooler should be between the radiator & AC condenser.

I had a turbo laser (said "eclipse") so I know the difference. Good luck, stick around. Have fun! Get lots of tickets!
