Unhappy And my day came...

I drove out to Springfield with my parents to see my brother today. As I pull into his dorm lot, the differential went south. Yeah. I know it is the diff and I know how it feels like (money pit memories came back real quick).

I rented a U-Haul and towed the car back. The good news is that the SVX is back in my lot. The bad news is that I need a new diff and while I am at it, I will wait it out and geather parts for 5 speed. Why not? If I am wrong in thinking that, let me know. What a day.

Lwin

that really sucks.

My diff went about a year ago. It is a really ugly sound and feel.

sorry.

I hope to be able to start my 5 spd update when I'm comfortable with the task rather than when my tranny/diff goes!

Hope the transition goes smooth!

Put it this way, now, I can't just sit and procrastinate.

it sucks to have the car being worked on in chicago when i'm in madison. if only i lived closer to the shop i probably would have been able to communicate with them better and have the car done by now to be able to tell y'all if the shop doing my conversion would do a good job... but with my finals schedule coming up and all i probably won't be able to go out of town for like another 2 weeks... argh....

lwin... good luck with the 5spd! i wish i could give you a recommendation for shops to do the conversion, but it looks like its going to take a bit longer argh...

How are they? And what are they charging you? Can you PM me some details. Also, Rob, do you think we can do this? Hopefully before the meet?

Lwin,
Have you talked to Todd about his progress on his 5spd effort? I talked with him at Reading and I think he's really thought it out well.

Talking Thanks Bill

It's 12:58 am and I've just come in from the garage for the night. I've got about 1/2 hour of work tomorrow and the auto is out and headed for it's new home in another members car.

From what I've seen so far, pulling the engine (last summers task)is easier and faster than pulling the transmission. I'm really putting the tool collection to task here.

My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I'm having a good time tearing in to the car and seeing how things are put together. Not too rusty which is amazing considering the car's spent its entire life in the Rust Belt.

Time to go to bed and get recharged for tomorrow.

Todd

well... originally they quote me a labor charge of no more than 1000, but that could and should have changed somewhat by now... for the more expensive...

however, as much delay as it seemed, they are good with communication, and i feel quite comfortable (albeit lonely) for leaving the svx there for like a month

i'll pm you with their info once i get home tonight...

Good luck with the conversion, Lwin! Funny how things happen whether you're ready for them or not. I hope your ready for this one. It makes life so much easier when you are!

That is true. I am going to take my time to fix this car to perfect condition. Mean while, I will get a second reliable car to drive for now. When I am done with the SVX, that thing should shine inside and out. I want to take care of this once and for all. There are so many things wrong with the SVX that that is probably the way to go rather than try to fix just the diff alone i think. I will be out of SVX for a long time but at the end, it is for a good reason.

Lwin
Mods to be done: interior mod, scissor doors, perhaps a repaint, suspension, new wheels, 5 speed and redo the engine as well. New lights??? New seats?? Sound proofing
