Lightbulb "None of the above"

Goodyear Eagle RSA 225/50-16V 4@ $442 mounted and spin balanced, new valve stems, tread & road hazaed warranty, free rotations, etc., at Les Schwab all over the West.

I was encouraged to see this brand/model tire as the one on about 95% of the police and highway patrol cars here in Oregon (where it has been known to rain and snow, occasionally) and on quite a few of the same on my trips, from Florida to New York State and all across the country.

Probably not the sportiest, the quietest, the longest wearing, etc., but...

Pretty damn good in all respects!

I currently have Sumitomo HTR+ on my SVX, the little I have driven it since I got it, I have noticed that the tires tend to scrub a little when in slow semi-tight/tight turns (such as pulling into parking spots) but if you are turning quicker (such as turning a corner) it doesn't do it. I have heard of other people having the same problem with this (and other) tire(s) as well.
Can't say how they are in the rain or snow yet, but when I do replace them I'm going to go with the Conti's.

Beav,
I read the reviews on tire rack before buying the Pzeros. These were from actual users who'd put some mileage on them. Highest rating of all tires.

Also, you know that annoying "scrubbing" noise you tried to locate. It's gone since the Pzeros. Don't ask me how, but, I'm happier'n a hog in slop.

BTW, thought of you last weekend while I was enjoying a 2 inch thick pork chop at Patti's.

These were what I replaced. They were ****e, in my opinion. Certainly not worth the 180 apiece they charged me for them.

when I had my Mustang GT I had a set of Pirelli P Zero and there were the best tire on wet traction. but the GT is RWD not AWD. in SVX i don't think you need the P Zero, unless your car has more HP.

when I replaced my SVX tires in 2000, I was in school and was low on $, so I try to find low price performce tire. I read from Motortrend that the Pepboys Futura Ultra Z were not bad, so I brought a set of 2 to try them on. It performed well but it wasn't good looking. Later I installed 2 more new tires but went with the Bstone RE950s. my SVX now has set of 2 different tires.

I like the Ultra Z better than RE950, because when I rotate the tires the car handle better with the Ultra Z on the front compare to if I had the RE950 on the front, especially on hi speed above 80mph.

I know that not many SVX owners buys their tires at Pepboys but I think they are very good Z rated tire for $100ea, and you get free service with the tires.

Is your car fwd or awd? AWD + different tires = very bad things.

i know its not good to have different tires on AWD but at least they are all asymmetric design and not directional symmetric tires.

my tires are almost gone so, i will replace all 4 tires at the same time.

Go for the yokahomas, you will love them, though they are a little pricey

NSF...yokahomas??? i was told by a friend who works at a tire shop that they are not that good, because yokahomas buy defected tire from toyo tires and use them for its tire.

thanks for the input! i had used so many different tires $$$ before on my 240SX and Mustang GT.

i like to save $ now, so i will buy the Pepboys $100 tire again. it performs better than it look

Sounds like BS to me

true! but you don't find many fast cars like M3, 911, S4 with yokahomas. P zero are my favorite tire, but i will wait till i have a +350hp car to use them.

So why are they OEM on Aston Martins?

We previously used Pirelli P6000s, but didn't like them much.

Now we used Falken ZIEX. They are much better than the Pirellis for half the price. I noticed at the last SVX meet that they are visually identical to the Bridgestones on Phil and Angie's car.

Here's a thought: Is a "W" rated P6000 actually constructed any differently from a "V" rated P6000? I seriously doubt it. But they can sell the one with "W" stamped on it for $10 more.

I put Michelin Pilot Sports on my SVX back in August of '99. I paid about $750 (including mounting, balance, etc.) but that was five years ago and I'm sure the price has dropped since then. I've put about 50K on them and still have acceptable tread. The tires are OK. Decent ride characteristics, quiet and good grip. I've never had a problem in snow. They are extremely sensitive to air pressure. Keep them up to spec and they're very good. Let the pressure drop into the 20's and they become mushy.

As you can tell, I'm not in love with them, but they are good tires and have lasted longer than I ever expected, which mitigates the price.

Regards,
Thom C.
