help now! svx alarm

I accidently held my remote button and my svx is doing it's panic alarm thing. I can't get it turned off. Could someone tell me how to turn off the panic thing. I tried just pressing the remote button again. I tried using the key to turn off the alarm. I even disconnected the battery negative terminal and when i hook it back up it does the same thing. I've had to just leave it disconnected untill I can find out how to get out of panic mode.

Well I can say it shold not go off for more than 2 and a half minutes. Its supposed to turn it self off at that point to save the battery. Oh, and I have activated panic mode once before because someone asked how loud it was. I just started the car and it turned right off. Something may be wrong. Oh, and it takes 10+ min to clear the computers in the car and I've heard it may be upto 24 hours, so you may want to try waiting at least 10 min before retrying it.

In the future, to disable panic, just hold your remote button down for 5 seconds or more and that should disengage it.

The Acura dealer where I purchased my SVX told me there was an alarm in the car but it went off one day and the could not get it to stop so they took it out.

I certainly despise the term, especially from whence it raises it's ugly head from time to time, but, in this case, I can't find a better term.

Those guys were MORONS.

alarm and remote

just got home after 3000 plus miles. My alarm went of one morning at the motel and i had a hell of a time getting it off. My wife read the manual telling me what to do and i still had problems getting it to stop. Part of the time it would not start and some times it would start but keep honking and flashing the lights. I think people at the motel probably thought i was steeling the darn car. I finaly got it stopped but i still dont know how. The alarm is turned off now and i am afraid to turn it back on until i go through the manual again. ..Jim Stanley

Do you have a remote? If not, the only way to stop it is to start the car. If the alarm is on, you'll get a "clicking" for seven seconds before the alarm goes off, when you first get in the car to start it. If you beat the seven second window, the alarm won't sound. If you don't, just start the car and it'll stop. If you want to use the alarm, I'd suggest getting a remote. Trying to work around the alarm without one is a pain in the butt. They're available at www.subaruparts.com for around 50 bucks (they'll cost you around 70 at your dealer), or, there may be members here who have extras.

Some times the alarm control unit is going out and that happens. It may become worse as time goes on. Good luck with it.

my stock alarm had very bad range........I put the blame on the remote transmitter but who knows.

Still, the alarm is pretty hooked up for a subaru in 92!!!

Mine had bad range until I fixed it. I opened the remote and cleaned off the peice of metal attached to the remote board by a small wire assuming it was the antenna. I also cleaned the small metal peice thats attached to the keychain. That way the 2 metal peices contact better. Worked great.

You think the SVX panic is bad, the alarm on my RX7 is horrible. I don't think it would even keep anyone from stealing the car. It's too comical the way the flip up lights pop up and down and the horn goes "beep HONK beep HONK". Looks and sounds like a cartoon. lol

Maybe that's the idea. The thief is laughing so hard, they can't jimmy the lock or break a window.
