Like any car that is out of production and made in low volume, used parts are hard to come by and new parts are expensive. Aside from normal car issues like CV joints and brakes, the only problems with this car are the rear wheel bearings (expensive but a single day repair) and the transmission. When a tranny does go it is not like you can drop it off that morning and pick it up from the shop, repaired, in the evening. Many shops won't even attempt a rebuild and rebuilt trannies run around $2500 & $3500 + labor. Working used trannies are hard to find. Most of them are already shot. That is why so many are giving up on the slush box, dropping in 5-speeds and driving off into the sunset with basically no worries. I plan to do the same once my warranty runs out and replacement trannies are no longer a $100 deductable away.

Yeah, actually I did a good bit of reading on the SVX and was aware going in of the transmission/bearing/brake issues and potential expense. (And I bought it anyway. Never underestimate the power of denial.) Have already replaced the left-rear bearing and now can hear the right-rear muttering. Gear changes are prompt, crisp and quiet, but there does seem to be a hint of slippage -- to judge only by the tach -- under moderate power in fourth. To tell the truth, what I know about automatics wouldn't fill a thimble, and it's been so since I drove one with regularity (and never with OD, nor in a tachometer-equipped car), I don't really know how to expect it to behave, so long as it gets me down the road.

Did I mention that I really, really like this car?

the cupholder fits inside the center console. it's in an awkward position for me, plus i use my center console as an armrest in the closed position. it's also a more convenient storage space than the glove box.
