Bill, you musta' been a fan of the '57 Rambler Rebel when it hit the streets. AMC's revenge! 255HP 0-60 around 7 secs. as my tortured memory seems to recall. Ron.

Yeah, I seem to recall that car, too, though I don't recall ever particularly lusting after one.

My girlfriend at the time had a Renault LeCar. We, ummm, managed to pass the time in that car a few times. I couldn't do that now, of course, although I'd be willing to try! I just recently got in contact with her via e-mail after about 18 years. She said every time she sees a LeCar (which couldn't be much) she thinks of me. Isn't that sweet?
You are right Rich, the Gordini was a tricked up version of the R17, the standard version would be more common here in Ireland due to our very high taxes on automobiles. Your Mom has taste.

The LeCar is a Renault 5, an older version of the GT Turbo I had. If you were "passing the time" in that you must have been agile. No wonder she still remembers you!!

Remember 8-tracks? Anyone ever bump one into loud play mode with your butt at a moment of great intensity? Just wondering.

Joe

Prior to 8-tracks, when I was stationed in Germany in the mid-'60s, a friend had an Opel Kapitan with a 45 RPM record player built in the dash (bolted on). Talk about a hop, skip 'n jump. Wow.
Ron.

Which is what I suppose one becomes when one hits the loud play mode with their butt in a great moment of intensity.

Slipped disk

Naturally, I was referring to the 45, with the stylus doing a hop, skip 'n jump.

The 8-track was a hypothetical question, but as I recall the cassette was a large device with rounded edges.

Probably designed like that to cut down on in-vehicle trauma in the event of an accident.

Joe

Have you looked in my locker at the Bagheera pics yet? My tranny has arrived in Dublin yesterday evening, will be fitting it over the next couple of days.

Joe, I'm extremely happy for you. You deserve a "Virtue" award, in recognition for your patience. You're gonna be one happy camper. Just don't go tooooo crazy and take the sucker off the road in your excitement.

Hey Huck

Unexpected that a redneck mechanic would have an 8-track. Not!!

You are lucky you saved yours. I gave mine to a friend who had no ICE at the time. Years later, I inquired for it back [to fit in a 70's car], but it seems to have been sent to the cornfield. Because of the wide tape ribbon, they had much better sound than the current tape. They were prone to get mucky and sticky though if you were not religious about keeping the heads clean. If I can find a good one at one of those old-timer electronics shops I will buy it.

Joe

Thanks Randy

Will keep in mind this tranny is out of a car that rolled. Don't want to get in the habit of it or make the tranny dizzy.
Along with the tranny I also bought the power steering pump, following your advice, c. $100. I took two front rotors @ $25 each and two wheels at $40 each. He threw in the wiper arms FOC.
When the stuff arrived, they had sent me three wheels!! Really nice guys to do business with.

Joe
