I don't mean to barge in on so public a private discussion, but I believe you're talking about Rob's GPS receiver. There are dozens of models available these days for a range of prices.
If you want to speak to somebody privately, you can send them a private message, by the way.

It's a Garmin GPS III plus. Just do a search on Ebay. You can usually find them for like 200-300 dollars. I removed mine because I liked to see all the warning lights... I'm not sure if I'll put it back in or not. It was pretty cool and easy to see there, but it was hard to press the buttons and not run into anything.

If you already have a PDA with Palm or Windows CE OS, or, even a laptop, here's a cute little gadget:

I have a Magellan GPS Tracker in my car. Garmin and Magellan seem to distinguish themselves by the orientation of their receivers. Garmin's models tend to be landscape while Magellan's models seem to typically be portrait.
I had to order a windshield mount direct from Magellan. I like the location better than Rob's steering column mount, but the stupid hardware was expensive and poorly made. You should also note that GPS receivers don't work that well in SVXs. I had to put an active antenna in the trunk to get mine to work well. With that antenna, though, I get better reception with my GPS than I've ever gotten with the included antenna. I had a hard time finding an active antenna with a long enough lead.

For an antenna lead extension, just stop by radio shack. As far as I'm aware, they all use the old school network card type of wire; that coaxial style with the 'twist and lock' metal ends. You can buy a 15 ft cable for about 10 bucks.

Actually, it turns out that different manufacters - and even different models - use all sorts of connectors. Mine uses a mini-BNC type of connector.

Amazingly, I bought a Radio Shack Digitraveler for 99.99 last year. I hook it to my notebook computer and it does a stellar job. The receiver is a bit large (looks like the enterprise with the battle bridge disengaged). The lead is serial to, what looks like a network connector (larger than RJ12 phone jack). The lead is also long enough to sit the receiver in the rear window, thus, forgoeing the poor reception in the front windshield.
The unit came with the DeLorme Street Atlas Software. At the time (I don't think they make them anymore -- one more "orphan" product I own [SVX, IBM TransNote, Diamond Mako and DigiTraveler], they were available for PC or PDA. Darn! I just did a search for this product and it looks like they were selling them at about 30 bucks, clearance priced back in September. If you can find one (exclusively at Radio Shack) this is one heck of a deal for an excellent GPS receiver. Cables are available for all sorts of applications and the unit works with either the PDA or PC. The secret is to buy the PDA version since it has both PDA and PC software, then buy the cables for your PC and your PDA (if the PDA package doesn't have the right cable for your particular PDA. If I can find one at that price for PDA, I'm gonna snag it for future use. The software is worth more than 30 bucks!

I almost geeked-out on your Star Trek reference. Almost. I mean, I had a whole scolding message about saucer sections and Enterprise versions typed out before I came to my senses.
Anyway, they're all over eBay if you really want another one. Just search for 'digitraveler.'
