This thread is deep enough now. I can Bltch now. I have a AWD without the AWD. I WANT MY AWD!!!!!!! To rebuild or not to rebuild that is the question????? How long will it last? Rebuild the back end now and then? When will the front go? No one knows. How can you know. I was searching today and ..... This is a common problem. There is a lot of posts on this. I could replace the transfer valve / solenoid "C" assembly myself for about $200 and 6 to 8 hours of my time. I could replace the control valve (also called "valve body", this being the part with passageways and solenoids) for about $500 and 2 hours of my time. If the clutches are not close to failure this could be a good deal.
I could get a rebuilt for about $3200 installed from Subaru with all the lastest upgrades and not spend any of my time working on it. I could go to Level Ten, not far from me, but I think it will cost more than they say it will. I think there are a few hidden cost there because I can't get a firm answer on what they will fix for the money. I could get it rebuilt at a trans shop for less but with no upgrades, Suby or Lev10, to the control valve. This would add $500 for a new valve from Subaru. I could wait until it fails and then scramble for the rebuilt one at Subaru. And then to complicate this more, I do not know if the transmission is a Subaru rebuilt or something else. I do not know if had the valve body upgrade, the temperature sensor upgrade and the transfer valve upgrade! So I guess that is it!!!! I will just keep driving around turning the switch to solenoid "C" on and off as this is helping the rear wheel drive some. Then I will just wait until the clutches go and when I can't move any more I'll go to Subaru. Someday. Maybe years from now. Driving on the highway is not going to hurt this transmission. Heck it is in lock-up most of the time. And I think it has about 80,000 mile on it since the last rebuild. The clutches have got to be close to going? But not on the highway. I WANT MY AWD. |
