OT: A/V stuff
I'm planning on connecting my computer up to an HD TV. Actually, I did already and it works pretty good but I need to run 25ft of component cables because the computer will be in another room. I went to Best Buy and the salesman said that the cables won't run video that far(on component). I went to another store and they had 33ft for $200. I couldn't believe how expensive they were.
I was just curious if anyone knows if I can get away with Radio Shack RCAs instead of these outrageous Monster Cables. |

You could but that would defeat the purpose...

sure. i think Monster cables are a bunch of B.S. anyway. i use plain old Radio Shack stuff for my home speakers. i'd love to have an audiophile do a comparison with $200 Monster cables. "oh dear, those inferior Radio Shack wires are hurting my super-sensitive ears!"

I'm not an audiogeek, so I say any non-corroded thicker speaker wire is fine...but as for picture quality, I had a friend with a laptop, and it had an S-video port. To hook it up to his TV, he bought an S-video RCA adaptor. Results: Crap. Everything is blurry and fuzzy. So last summer (when we were roommates) we used my TV, and just a straight S-video cable to my TV. Better, but still crap. To get good picture I'm sure you'll have to use better cables, or get one of those AVI thingies.

Update:
I bought a cheap 20 foot RCA cable to test the video. Instead of running the component video out(3 video cables) from the computer I only used one RCA for the composite output. I was able to set video anywhere from 640x480 to 1024x768. Text on the screen is unreadable but my goal was just to be able to output movie and tv shows that I recorded/downloaded. I set it to 800x600 and the video is pretty clear. Suprising S-Video was the same quailty as composite so I only had to buy a $10 RCA cable. |
