Finally going in for paint

Taking the car in next week for a repaint of the black parts.

The paint looked OK when I purchased it 7 or 8 years ago, but not being garaged has taken it's toll.

Great to hear. Must be exciting.

Do you know how they will be handling the rubber trim?

Hold the phone! Did you try compounding? That looks like there still might be life left in it. The wing is shot but the roof and trunk lid might be salvageable. Maybe a little wet sanding if it's meaty enough. Consult a reconditioner before taking it in for paint.

It was compounded a couple years ago, looked great... for about 2 weeks then clouded up again.

Re: Finally going in for paint

It's a bummer the way the spoilers chip. My '97 had one small chip 2 years ago and now there's 7 big ones. It's fading also on the roof and spoiler.
The '92 Ebony was painted a few years before I bought it and still shines like it was waxed yesterday. I've had it for 7 years so the paint is about 10 yrs. old and it lives outside. I wish I knew where it was done. All I know is the shop is in Toronto.

Re: Finally going in for paint

Cool! The sexayest SVX color combination will be brought back to full sexayness once more.

I doubt compounding will help, the clearcoat is probably gone. I had a Peugeot 505 Turbo ages ago that had that happen. The guy at the paint shop said he mixed a little bit of color into some clearcoat rather than taking it all the way down and repainting the color. To my eyes it looked like new again.

Thumbs up It's done, but hard to capture in photos

Just came from the shop, the paint looks great. I found a slight misalignment in the deck lid drivers side that will need adjusted and slight area of pull away in the sunroof rubber, but other than that a great job. They ended up not painting the side panels, they only polished them up but they seem to match the paint very, very well (luckily I don't have a color where those are prone to fade). In fact I didn't realize there was a difference until they told me. They said it's very hard keep paint on those hard plastic pieces so they wanted to try this first, and I think this is better than them breaking them while taking them off or overspray on the rubber. Hard to photograph it though, it's a bright clear day with puffy clouds in the sky so lots of reflection.

So weird to see the car without the chips in the spoiler. Anyone has any tips on the deck lid adjustment let me know.

Re: Finally going in for paint

Me too I always wanted a silver one. Looks like they did a really nice job. Black is a tough color to spray without imperfections.

Re: Finally going in for paint

I know, I've been wanting to get this roof done for years and finally here it is and I'm so happy with the way it turned out.

They did all the prep as well as fixed the spoiler and the a roof imperfection so it was was not cheap. Of the quotes I got they were actually the highest by a lot but they were also the only ones that were planning to do it the way that I wanted done. Also they have a reputation as the best in town and did great work in past on one of my vehicles.

I don't mind PM'ing the cost to anyone curious but would rather not post it on the public forum.
