torque converter

ok so tranny went out a few weeks ago [big surprise there eh?]

got the new tranny from ebay ['97 legacy 88k - 99day warranty]

my question is - whats the story on my old tc?

shop said it doesn't leak and didn't have any debris but the shop of course
indicated that my labor wage would double if they have to pull it back out
after installing

the 'new' tc from the legacy tranny is smaller than my old and cannot be reused

so do i buy a new one at $167 local

pick up a 'known good' one off ebay for $50 plus sh

or trust my old one since the fluid was clean and its not leaking?
