Hi Phil,
I have been doing a bit of reading re Air/Fuel and it seems that the 14.7 is ideal for the cat to work and gives a balance between economy & power. The number needed for maxium power is 13:1 and max economy around 17:1. It is my understanding that our O2 sensors arn't very good at reading out side there existing range but I need to check.
Have you tried the burner yet as I am interested to see if we could burn a new air/fuel map. Also were do I find a copy of the instructions and there meaning to help me understand the code. Keep up the good work its a great project.
Tony

Hi Tony,
I read back through Silverspears posts about his non-catalyst SVX. It did have O2 sensors from the factory, so his ECU might not be too different from ours. It probably just has a different fuel map.

I haven't tried burning a new rom yet. It's way down my list of priorities. But Mike (UPnorth362) apparently has, so he can explain how to do it.
You can either use the proper EPROM chips, which are no longer made, or you can get an adapter for moderm EEPROMS like the one from http://www.scoobyecu.co.uk. The scoobyecu guys could probably tell you how to burn it too.

One thing to note, the JDM ECUs don't have a socket, just a row of solder dots on the board. If your car is JDM then you will need to either solder a socket onto the board or swap in a non-JDM ECU.

The instruction set documents are on my website somewhere. I'll be adding more updates soon. http://www.alcyone.org.uk.

Thanks Phil,
My car is a Australian version and I have taken the top off the spare ECU and it does have the socket. I keen to have a go at getting the data out for you as it will be interesting to compare the maps. On question about the recent graphs you posted you though they were for a MAF not working but recently I had two wires break to the MAF and it kill the engine. There was no limp home mode. On the other hand I have smashed O2 sensors on rocks and in some case disconnect both and the car still ran well.
Just a thought.
Had to do some work on the speedo and found the detail you help me with last year, it was good stuff thanks.
Tony

Do you remember if you got a Check Engine Code 23? The ECU will only use the guess-airflow function if it detects that the MAF is faulty. If the signal from the MAF is within the allowed voltage range, even if it is wrong, the ECU will not detect that the MAF is faulty and will try to use it.

Or maybe your Aussie ECU works differently.

the two centre wires broke off at the plug on the MAF and the CE light came on as the engine shut down, was siting at 140k and it never fired once the first one came off the second one broke when I was sorting out the first. Didn't check the code as it was pretty clear that it was the wires as they were hanging out.
Interesting thing happen today I have been losing power to some degree and car has been running funny so I changed the cam sensor and the car ran heaps better. The ECU must have the ability to predict the cam position if the sensor starts giving problem. Like others I did not get a CE so how do we figure that out.
Like the new web pages.

Has anybody ever taken the lid off one of the OBD2 ECUs? Or know anything about them?

Are they the same hardware as the OBD1 ECU with different software, or are they the newer generation of JECs ECUs - as found in the later model Legacy and Impreza before they switched supplier to Denso?

Most importantly, do they have an EPROM socket, or are they Flash upgradable?

Dave, did you try ringing the number that is listed on his profile page?

Very often it can happen that a job situation or a family crisis can keep somebody occupied for a few weeks, maybe even a holiday.

Try the phone number, or try contacting some of his buddies.

Joe

Joe, as was discussed in the other thread, that number is only available to moderators, and I agree with that policy. I wasn't too concerned with the delay, but it seems that other members are having the same problem. Perhaps one of the staff members can attempt to contact him?

It seems that his last login on the network was 11/13, the same day that I sent him Paypal for the connector.

I should have realised that.

OK, one of us will try to make the call for you today, see what the problem may be.
