Paint Color: Maroon w/clear coat coming off

Interior Color: Taupe? (a grayish tannish...)

Miles: 17x,xxx

Location: See above

Options: Unkn

AWD or FWD: FWD

Modifications: No

Major service: Unkn

Engine Condition: Apparent blown head gasket

Maintenance Records: No

Transmission condition: Seemed fine when driving it

Glass condition: Good, all there

Type of tire and remaining tread: Will have to look; good matched set, but several years old now.

Type of wheels: Chrysler Concorde

Interior condition: Good, no radio

Body condition: Slight-moderate damage to chin piece, few dings, otherwise good, everything fits up nicely (doors, trunk, etc.)

Known defects or problems: See gasket mentioned above, + needs oil seals (valve covers only?); AC out; needs left O2 sensor (blown gasket side); missing rear wiper arm; ?

Comments about the car: Bought nearly 3 years ago for oldest son (that is, I found it, he bought it); car had been parked by PO for 2 years and started periodically; test drove fine (10min or so), but gasket issue started to manifest on the way home.

We put several hundred miles on it being careful not to overheat it. It really ran strong otherwise, and when the O2 sensor issue wasn't messing with it. Cruise worked, sunroof, windows, and everything else that I can remember.

We began to disconnect stuff to pull the engine and never finished. It's been like that for at least a year. We have all the parts I believe. I have kept it black-tagged. If was able to get it done, I'd fix the gasket, oil seals, O2 sensor, timing belt and whatever else should be done with the engine out, and drive it just like that. Wouldn't worry about paint, and maybe not even A/C unless that was an easy fix while the engine was out.

Asking price: I gave this to my next 2 oldest boys, who aren't driving age yet, after buying out my oldest. I'll have to talk to them to verify, but they'd probably take $500. I still believe this to be a fixable car, but I'm not inclined to lay in the dirt under it, etc., with plenty of other stuff on my plate (that I'm also putting off...). Of course, once the engine is out, the integrity of the block would have to be confirmed. I don't know for sure that it is ok. I am optimistic about it. At this price though, with all the other good stuff on the car for someone who needs any of it, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Maybe these are a dime a dozen in this shape though, I don't know.

OK, so what I have here is a glorified paperweight, lol. An unwieldy boat anchor... Well, I thought I'd give it another shot. But I thought you guys liked these cars... I understand though - there are some really neat projects, that would be a weight around your neck if they were given to you, much less having to lay out good money for.

There are several issues here. The car can't be driven and is partially disassembled. It has a blown head gasket. It's FWD. It's in Oklahoma. People want the engine (no good) and AWD transmission (FWD).
It will cost a small fortune to have it transported which makes it as you say a paperweight

Thanks for the reply. All of those I can understand except for the blown gasket part. Do you mean it's not fixable, not worth fixing, or not worth the risk to find out?

The FWD only thing doesn't bother me at all. One local guy that looked at it and was prepared to by it when I had it for sale for $1000 before starting disassembly had assumed it was AWD. He didn't want the FWD model.

High mileage so not worth fixing and not worth the risk.
I'm not trying to make your car look bad. I'm just stating why I think there is no interest on the forum.

Quite alright. Considering the type of car, I guess I can see that too (sport/performance - anyone interested enough to do that kind of work on it is likely to want to drive it kind of hard).

I was just thinking along the lines of what kind of mileage some of those Jap cars are capable of. And even what I've put on some 80s-90s era American ones (220k+), and thinking it otherwise should have a lot of life left.

It would be disappointing, but I guess if you had to write it off completely at the 170k+ it's got, that was still a pretty good run.

I had another guy tell me it has $3000 worth of glass (a local Subaru specialist mechanic), but I guess that wasn't right either. Or maybe it would be if you had to try to find it new, but no one needs it apparently.

It's sad to hear that it may not move, but there is a limited number of donor cars left, so it may move if you can wait a little longer.

I'm still waiting to get the time to put color on mine, but have a limited amount of hours in the week right now.

Yeah, I hate to see it go to waste. I tried to generate some interest with a young kid at work who drives a WRX (?; newer fast looking Subaru, blue), but he didn't bite. I woulda thought a young guy with know how and time might be interested. He said his has a horizontally opposed motor also.

I've got a boat to take care of next, and possibly an LS salvage job at some point, from my son's wrecked Firebird Formula. So the Subaru goes further on the back burner...
