Transmission Shift Cable Woes
Hello all-
Just bought a '92 LS-L AWD that needed some work. First order of business was changing the trans shift cable. Should have been easy but became a real PITA. I had a hard time removing the bushing off the transmission selector lever (on the tranny itself). So, I decided to loosen the nut holding it on and remove it. Bad idea. Heard a "crack", and now it feels like all I have is Park and Drive. There aren't all the detents like it had before. A couple questions: * what did I break? * Does the Neutral Safety Switch, which indicates shift position on the dash as well, also tell the tranny what gear to be in? As in, does it tell it the difference between D, 3, 2, and 1? I'm going to try and put it back together now and see what happens. BTW- root cause of my woes was that the NSS is binding up, which caused the thing to be hard to shift. |
