Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

Could some one spell out how they route exactly?

I've got a leak in the lines someplace above the tank...I'm not pulling the tank right now.

The junction in front of passenger rear wheel is ok and accessible... 2 lines go shooting up next to the gas tank...then on the other end of things, the brake line at the wheel is coming from the rear end of the car?? How is this thing routed!?

So where is the nearest accessible (don't mind pulling a few things, but not the tank right now) point to splice after it comes out from the passenger compartment?

Re: Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

Alright. I kind of answered my own question.

But....both lines disappear behind the tank, one atop the other, and reappear on the other side, but its not possible to see which one was the top line and which was the bottom line.

Which is which?

(this post has so many grammatical errors.......IM BUSY OK!?)

You did remove the rear seat and see if you can see them right?

Re: Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

I see where they leave the rear seat and go under car. I can access that junction (if it disintegrates is a good question). But I don't know which line goes left and which goes right.

edit: There's also a good illustration in the FSM. See page 56 in the appropriate section

Yes! I think....

The picture gets to pixelated....but it appears the top pipe goes to passenger side?

Outside I go..

Hard to tell - it may be the opposite.... see the attached illustration from the FSM

Re: Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

I would just replace both lines eliminating the junction point underneath. I did mine with two different colored pipes so I can know which side is which. I used flare fittings where they connect under the seats, this way I have access to them and they are safe from the elements. I pulled out the old pipes because they just fell apart from all the rust. I ran the new pipes along the frame secured with zip ties. I then cleaned the rusted areas and rubber coated everything.

Re: Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

that will be very helpful for later this week…

I think the FSM shot DOES show the top going to the drivers side. which sucks…b/c now my drivers side goes to my passenger side…and the drivers side still leaked so I just blocked it off for the night. will need to fix it tomorrow night.

Those pics will help as they tell me which line is which when it comes down,

and the FSM shot is SO much better then the pixelated thing… thanks guys

J

Excellent idea. My rear passenger side blew while bleeding the brakes a couple of months ago. Now I know an excellent and long lasting repair method.

Thanks

Advance Auto Parts numbers for a bend it yourself brake line replacement.
You might need others or different ones because its a bend it as you go deal.

Re: Rear Brake line routing near gas tank

PAJ indicates a Japanese fitting, the 3 indicates 3/16" diameter line and the 51 is the inches in length.
