is there some other way to make it come on without the rom
The Aust PM works the same as the US PM, on the speed of the throttle movement. No other way.
I do have two spare Roms, one for the early pre 95, and one for post 95 Aust models. You have to fit a socket on the board to fit the rom.

First off, are these little plastic squares on the side of the connector the release tabs?

Here is where I'm inserting the nail/screwdriver:

And in this pic you can see that the tip of the nail is stopping on top of the little plastic square shown in the first pic:

Am I doing this all wrong? lol
Old thread, I know.... Is that a 10 pin plug? I ve pulled all three of the plugs out of my TCU and see no brown wire in 6th position, but... it looks like i have 2 16 pin connectors bookending an 8 pin connector.. GOING INTO A SILVER "BOX". Am I foraging in the wrong area?

Re: Power Mode Selection

If you are trying to remove the pin from the connector, those pics of mine that you quoted are good step by step instructions. Mine was jammed because I did it incorrectly the first time by trying to insert the nail into the side if the connector.

It may take some wiggling, but it should come out if you follow the pictures.

Re: Power Mode Selection

I saw those except i think the slot you actually needed to release the tab is on the other side of the connector, just below it, as it were. That's why i want a picture of an actual terminal. I don"t want to destroy the housing trying to get a 17 cent terminal out of it.(great pics btw, just wish i could have saw the released terminal)

Re: Power Mode Selection

Or are you 110% sure the lock tab was on the side you had the nail in? Because i have a jewels screwdriver and did run it all the way through and no, it did not release it.

Re: Power Mode Selection

Yeah I'm sure that the way the picture shows it is correct. I remember because I stuck the nail in the side at first and broke part of the housing right next to the release tab which is why I was having so much trouble with it...

Re: Power Mode Selection

IIRC, you don't need to stick the nail/screwdriver in any father than my picture shows, and once it's in there, just wiggle the wire in and out as you release the tab with the nail.

Re: Power Mode Selection

Still have some fiddling to do but,,,for future reference,,, a flat tipped nail goes through your finger easier than it comes out.
