I know all about that one. My company has some kind of vague partnership with Ford so we get the same discounts all Ford employees get on their products. Sad that their product list includes basically any large European make that isn't German. Also, had to show my wife to FINALLY convince her that her MX-6 is actually a Ford Probe! (she, like me, is anti-Ford, just from upbringing backed by bad experiences) Then I calmed her down and said, "It's okay, the last time a tech worked on it they said a Probe is actually an MX-6, not the other way around"

Edit: I just remembered Saab is European, but not Ford or German. They are part of GM though.

I've seen those in IL too.

But they are all domestic cars and easy to spot. You get a honda or mazda and you will fully blend in.

I wanted to get a MX-6 at one time. It is a ford probe. Same frame and even same parts underneath the trim.

It says "Ford" on the engine too.

Fortunately, it has been a very reliable car. My dad has always leaned towards GM, but not a die hard Ford hater. He broke his chain of GM trucks once and bought a almost new Ford and it instantly was a major money pit. Same happened when my sister got a Bronco II. My uncle on the other hand is a major ONLY Ford guy and has always gotten a new truck every 3 or 4 years, my aunt a new Explorer likewise, several of my cousins various used Ford cars back when they lived at home. All, even his new Explorers, trucks, seem to have big $$$ problems early and often. My wife's dad has always been a Chevy guy, not sure if he has bad Ford stories. And my two Trans Ams (79, 89) both lived past 150,000 miles with no repairs.

Anyway, I know it swings both ways, I'm sure Doug or Kelli or someone could counter all that. Just my experiences.

What was the topic again?

I was a Ford devotee for many years. Moreso out of tradition than personal preference. I was raised when you drove what your grandpa drove. We did, however, begin to gravitate toward the more "uppercrust" Mercury marque, however.

Even after I began to gravitate toward a love for European cars (Peugeot, British Leyland), I was still "redneck" enough to swear I'd NEVER own a Japanese car. Look at me now.

I just hate to see Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo listed under Ford products, for no other reason than, "it just ain't right." Even more tragic is the split ownership of Rolls Royce by Porsche and VOLKSWAGON.

For Valentine's Day I picked my wife up from work in a chauffered '57 (I think) Bentley. On the trip over from the hotel to her work the chauffer and I were making chit chat about the beautiful car and he started talking about the brand new Rolls he had recently seen. He said it still had the feel of a classic Rolls despite the German ownership. That was the first I had heard of that. Sounded like an amazing car though with the features he was describing. The '57 was just fine though.

We were doing a benefit car wash back in high school for a classmate's brother who needed a kidney transplant. A gentleman pulled up in his "old car" for us to wash it. At that time, it just looked like any old antique car to me. However, as I made my way to the hood, I noticed the ornament. It was the "flying lady." I gasped and froze as I noticed the stacked R insignia under it. He saw my reaction, then, promptly gave me a tour of the inside of the car and let me sit in the back seat as he showed me the crystal decanter and glass set in the rich burled walnut hide-away bar. Not only had this man, who'd been attending an auto show in the area, trust us to wash his 1924 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, but, he gave us a 100.00 bill for a 2.00 car wash. I was 16 years old, and extremely impressed. I dare say, I'd be just as impressed today.

<I guess the GM interest in Subaru is showing. Since the Police don't want their Impalas any more I guess they'll be offering up some STI's/WRX's. This could be GOOD! Police usually dump their cars at about 100,000 miles, just about the time a Subaru is hitting it's prime! Used STI's/WRX's on State internet sites to follow:::

"Hey Bill, did you ever notice that if you look at your WRX at a 45 degree angle....under street lights....that it says "Duckworth Police Department" on the side?"

Rock and ROLLS...

Lets see.....the new Rolls Royce has a BMW V-12 under the bonnet.

VW/Audi owns Bentley. (the BMW/Audi-VW switch with Roll/Bentley came at the begining of this year)

Ford has Aston Martin and Jag.

That should leave TVR and Morgan as just about the last British cars being made, right?

(are Bristol's still being made? They were when I was in England back in the late 70's....Lotus is now in Malaysia right? This is SO confusing....) Don

Doesn't it look like 'TRAIL BLAZER or ENVOY'.

It has GM power.
