Speaking of dreams, I drove from Kentucky to Western Iowa and back and didn't see a single SVX. In the middle of my stay in Iowa, instead of actually meeting another SVXer, I had to dream about it. I dreamt I saw a guy in a grocery store parking lot walking toward a bordeaux pearl. I called him over to talk about his car and, while we were talking, three teenagers stole his car. Gosh, I felt really, really, bad for the guy -- and it was only a stupid dream. I actually felt guilty when I woke up, because I felt responsible for his car getting stolen because I'd called him away from it. Gee Whillickers, I really need to find a different hobby.

Oh, and thanks for the offer. I'll let you know. I truly appreciate it.

How did you notice that the gear oil was getting in to case? I had never heard of this happening nor had any of my Subaru part sources, Untill It happend to me. Always checked my fluids at least once a month, noticed my tranny fluid getting dirty so I planed on flushing it, no big deal. Then one morning on my way to work , cruisin along, and with out warning a spun bearing noise and a braking effect, thought a wheel bearing seized up, jacked it up spun all the wheels? that wasn't it? check the tranny fluid, nasty as all hell, pull out the diff stick, nothin there!?

So if you want another good shifting tranny with a bad diff bearing I god one kicking around. But you should do what I did, time for the 5speed.

If I had the additional monies right now, I'd have the recently replaced Suby raman (One year this month) removed from "The Evil Twin" and put into "Patience" and slap a fiver in "ET." But, alas, I do not. In fact, if I can't find a reasonable price for repair, I will have to let "Patience" sit until I can gather the funds to fix her. That would NOT make me happy.

Why not put the Legacy tranny in and run in FWD till you get the SVX tranny repaired?

I had my tranny rebuilt with almost all new internals for $1750 at a very reputable tranny shop here in Greenville SC. This is a whole lot less than what the subaru dealer is asking, and I don't feel any worse going to them. You may just want to look around at different tranny shops in your area.

Was it a '97 Bordeaux Pearl LSi with a plate that read "SUBYDOO?"
And was the guy in your dream short, fat, bald, and obnoxious?

It's "Patience." Meanwhile, ET is glowing red with a C/E light that I have to run the self diag on, and the family van has re-developed an electrical gremlin. 3 cars, 3 problems. Oy!

AreDub,

Here's what you should do:

1) Have someone take ET off your hands
2) Send Patience to Tranny Shop
3) Wait until the Friday morning before Reading Meet
4) Pick up Patience and head to meet

The Meet Monster flirts with you every time, but every single time you manage to pull the perverbial rabbit out of your you-know-what to get to the meet. I think the Meet Monster is just flirting with you a little early this time around.

Besides, you have a pair of X's, unlike most of us. What are the odds the Meet Monster is powerful enough to claim both from you?

Latest News:

Shari dropped "Patience" off at a tranny shop in Owensboro. They're going to get back with me this afternoon with an estimate.

Pulled the codes for my CE Light: Cam Angle Sensor and O2 Sensor #1 was the verdict.

Huck,
That's not too bad of an Idea. If my estimate is too high, I might just have to do that. Grrrr.

Randy,

Isn't that how you went to Reading I and Vermont?

Well, kinda. At Reading I, I did not have the FWD fuse in. I THOUGHT (silly me) that I had a REAL SVX with a REAL SVX transmission in it.

Vermont was just after the LEGACY transmission that was in the SVX I bought (unbeknownst to me), gave up the ghost and I had it rebuilt, only to find out that it was a Legacy transmission and not an SVX transmission. Upon discovering that this was the case, I asked if there would be any damage if I put the FWD fuse in and drove it. The tranny shop said no, so, I slapped the sucker in, left from the tranny shop, picked up Shari at home and we began our (nearly) 4K mile adventure to VT then to ME, down to WV (for Snowshoe I) and back home. Nary a moment's trouble. I still have that tranny, by the way, with less than 10K miles, if anyone's interested in trading it for a front diff (Fits 91 Legacy).

Meanwhile, Shari just called while I was typing this. She went to pick up "Patience" and when she went to drive it off the lot at the tranny shop, it blew a P/S hose. She's calling my daughter to come pick her up IF the family van will start. It has been experiencing electrical gremlins which I hope to have repaired yesterday.

Will see if my CE codes return on the "Evil Twin" as I drive home today.

I'm determined not to become a frothing, screaming nutcase, which is what I usually do when ONE car acts up, not to mention all three.

UPDATE: The van started. Hooray!

Legacy trans

Randy,

Have you tried to sell the Legacy trans on either the Ultimate Subaru Message Board or over at what used to be i-club, now www.nasioc.com? i-club has a Legacy forum.

Just a thought,
Todd
