e-bay people, I swear they'll buy anything!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...tem=1874400869
Is this for real? I cannot beleive that 20 people (or more) have bid on this car. Not that I can't beleive a few would bid for parts or something but $1025.00+ for a car that is not only damaged at present but has a salvage title. Is it really worth more than $500.00???? -G Last edited by greg; 12-09-2002 at 07:54 PM. |

The salvage parts value of that car is about $1100. I bid on it.

salvage title or not, if it drives perfectly I think that it is worth way more than $2000. (then again I don't know fully what a salvage title entails). One could easily put on a carbon fiber hood or some old hood and it would look pretty good for the money.

Just because it has a salvage title, doesn't mean it is junk. When I worked at the body shop, during slow times we would buy a wreck and rebuild it.
They would have a salvage title, but the repairs would be done with great care and precision. They needed to be inspected by the DMV before the title could be transferred. I built several of my cars that way and I wouldn't worry about a car with a salvage title. I would just spend extra time inspecting it before buying. This car may have been rebuilt years ago and the hood is simply new damage. A salvage title is just a legal disclosure that the car has been in a serious accident and that the buyer should be aware of it. There are lots of cars on the road with salvage titles. Doug

A salvage title might only hurt you if you are buying it with hope of reselling it at a profit. If you are buying it for yourself to have a nice car to drive then $1,100 for it is a great deal. Even for parts salvage you could still make a good profit on it. Aside from the hood it looks like a real sweet looking SVX and worth more than $1100. I of course can not imagine buying a vehicle online without driving it. I know others here have and love the car they got but it's just too risky for me.

Could a car that's spent some time underwater be "salvaged"?
Remember, this car's from Houston! Ron.

<<Could a car that's spent some time underwater be "salvaged"?
Remember, this car's from Houston!>> In Wisconsin flood damage is also disclosed on the title. I bought a Shelby Charger from an insurance auction that had been run through a retaining fence and floated down the Mississippi river for a half mile. It said right on the title "Previous Water Damage", and "Previous Salvage Title" I don't know about Texas laws. Doug

hmmmm
1,000 for a junked car,, not runing 2,000 for a tranny rebuild 500 to get the dents pulled out from hail damaged and a damm good detail job 500 new tires "flat spoted from siting a year" so 4,000 for a car with 100,000 + miles on it the book value isnt worth that much,, rip off to me

I would think it is worth at least 2k, it really is in fairly good condition, just needs some good care.

Interestingly enough, I knew a guy with a dealer's license. He attended auctions for totaled vehicles, purchased whatever vehicles he felt were fixable, bought the necessary parts at cost to fix them (where dealer's license came in handy), and resold the cars at a profit. This was his business and how he made a living. He was trying to get me to get a car out of the auction. "You can get a nicer car that way." Personally, I think such cars will prove to be a hassle in the future, kind of like the SVX. |
