Other than the ones on the diff, yes. I ordered almost every nut and bolt that holds the rear end of the car together. Everything will be new hardware. I had seriously considered getting them Cadmium plated for a nice gold colour but that's just a bit much at this point.

Got the hole in the frame rail patched up and everything POR-15'd. I just need to finish cleaning and painting the subframe and then everything is ready to start assembly. I wanted to have the subframe sand blasted but the bushings simply will not come out and no blaster is willing to work on it with them installed. Maybe I'll build a tubular version in the future that gives me better control arm mounting points, being lowered puts the geometry all out of whack.

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

I'm going to hunt down the guy who did that hack job brake line replacement and hurt him. Badly. The SVX, like all Subarus and other cars from Japan, is a metric car. This means metric brake line fittings as well, throughout the car. Including the flex hoses to the calipers. Logically, this would lead one to assume that when replacing the hard lines that go to the flex hoses, metric fittings would be employed. But noooooo, this guy had to go ahead and use 3/8-24 fittings and tighten the hell out of them until everything stopped leaking. I don't much care about the flex line fittings because I'm also installing stainless lines, but the unions that he installed where his lines connect to the OEM hard lines are also SAE! So my nice new lines, all metric like they're supposed to be, don't bloody well fit. And now I need to cut the darn lines back to re-flare them. Hopefully I can do it closely enough that the lines I just bent up can still reach.

AAAAHHHH!!!

Whatever. Maybe I'll just go get some more -AN fittings. Airplane parts everywhere!!

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

Soon everything will be metric as it should be.
Decimals work, fractions don't!

P.S. All screws should be Robertson. The weird square ones they use in Canada.

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

Brake lines finished! I used some steel -AN fittings to tie everything together because I don't have access to a decent automotive flaring tool. I don't have the pads and rotors installed so I can't step on the pedal to pressurize the lines but everything is bone dry at the moment.

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

So how does one connect a 1/4" hard line to a 5/16" one?

McGyver level: Boss.

Cant wait to see the after picture...

You should just get a big above ground pool and do the entire svx at once

Wouldn't that be something.

Finally got the fuel lines completed. I'm quite pleased with how these turned out. I'll throw a bit of fuel in soon so I can run the pump and check for leaks. The pressure and return lines are the ones with -AN fittings. The one with a piece of hose is just the evap line, so I'm not worried about fuel leaks into the cabin.

One of the things about doing a restoration type job, particularly if you're a bit OCD like me, is that it's hard to refurbish one part have have it attached to an old, rusty, ugly part. Tada! Fresh heat shield and painted axles.

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

Finally got my subframe looking good again. I owe a huge thanks to Chucksta for letting me use his sand blasting setup, it was the only way I could get this thing clean enough to put a decent coat of paint on it. The only thing left is to get some urethane to reinforce the bushings and re-stick a couple bit of them.

And another big step today: Fired the car up for the first time in over a year to check for leaks in my new fuel lines. Mostly good, but my brass adapter setup isn't quite sealing. My fault really, I was hoping that the NPT threads would seal themselves and didn't use any thread sealant. Meh, I'll just pick up some fuel-friendly teflon and put it back together, no big deal.

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

Definitely! I need to have it in at least a towable state by the end of November, preferably driveable. I just bought a house and move in Nov 29th. Going to be awesome to have the garage upgrade!

Re: Project I Hate Rust: Phase 1

lol. No hoist, just a bigger garage. I'm currently using a 10x25' garage that is shared with my room mate. The SVX's new room is about 20x25, has front and rear garage doors, natural gas supply, lots of room for work benches/tool boxes... Just need to insulate it and get the heater set up and I've got a 4 season workshop.
