Re: Reading TWELVE sign-up list

I think that members who sign up to attend Reading should do so if they are fairly certain they will attend.

Those "maybes" who are unsure should wait until they are. Or just add your name to the list and remove it later if you can't be there.

I can say that I will be there at least one of those days, but will not require a hotel room.

Not at all bitter Harry, just don't want to see the SVX become a footnote just like the British iron from the 60s has due to an aging ownership, arrogance and unwillingess to attract the young to invest in something other than a crappy body with wheels, a sound system and hack 'em up mods.

It isn't rocket science that standing in a parking lot of a hotel does nothing to attract potential buyers for the car. It is perfectly fine early on to get a cohesive club started but with maybe 5k on the road and less than 2k in even #2 shape reality just needs to set in for quite a few here.

You're always welcome to come to a real car show where you can share your experiences with car people who just need a nudge to get past the neg press on the SVX. There's a killer autox course on site too. To me its a no brainer since no one is even willing to step up and do the hard work needed to make a meet happen the past few years.

You make some good points, Ben - BTW, where is the real car show / autocross you mentioned?

And very true - I have found over the years that most aren't willing to work to make a good meet happen - it's always a few dedicated people that do all the work ....

Nothing I haven't been saying for 5 years. I grew up in the British scene. Sadly today, how many people saw a TR6 or a MGB on their way home, how about a miata? Both the TR7 and MGB can be made just as reliable cheaply as a mid priced miata for a daily driver in the summer months. Only problem is the young people today don't want them because they didn't grow up wanting them because they were hidden in garages and exclusive car meets by then.

Its at Carlisle Fairgrounds. Billed as the worlds largest Import show and while you will see a couple ricers it is not a rice show. Just a nice mix of cool imports from Japan and Europe with some Saabs and Volvos mixed in.

Where have all the long time members gone is asked all to frequently around here. Only reason most are missed is because they haven't been replaced.

Re: Reading TWELVE sign-up list

John,

Why is Reading XII about a month late. Reading SVX Meets are usually held in April.

What am I missing?

You missed this thread.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54144

Many people complained about the weather and low temperature. I started a poll of Reading attendees to see which alternative dates were desirable.

The poll was open for a whole month and you see the results. Those who didn't vote obviously did not have a preference. Majority won.

Cannot possibly predict the weather on the third weekend of next April or may. But it should be warmer (and greener for a back roads caravan/ covered bridges tour)

Re: Reading TWELVE sign-up list

Majority is half plus one; popular vote won. (That's a relative term - the winner was unpopular with roughly 2/3 of the voters!) Results looking for majority without truly finding one wind up with a revote with the two most popular, but that would get tired quick with something as simple as this.

Either way, I'll be attending pending our local autocross schedule, which the later date gambles with. Should I de-list myself? List as a maybe? Stay on, and skip the details?

When signup protocol gets people agitated, the system is starting to break down.

Whats wrong with people putting maybe? At least they are informing that it is not 100% that they will be there.

Okay, back to my hole I go.

+1

I put maybe because of the graduation photography thing I do. With May being the major graduation season in the NE and most schools graduating on weekends I know I'll be working that weekend. If I get a job in SE PA, I'll be able to make it. If I'm somewhere else, probably not.

There are three events that I look forward to every year; Reading, Ultimate Subaru meet in Carlisle, and the Alcyone Dragon meet. Maybe we can get the Dragon meet scheduled for the 3rd weekend of May next year as well.
