Re: rare colors

I looked at a yellow '97 in Colorado a couple of years back. If it was a respray, then it was a good one: Engine bay and door jams matched. It had a 5 speed swap, but had been in a front end crash. I offered $2500 plus the cost of fixing the body damage (Superrupair in Boulder does body work, and sells used cars), and they turned me down because someone else had offered $1500 for parts and never followed through. I couldn't believe they turned down my cash, plus work in favor of an imaginary offer of less money. That was the beginning of the end for my relationship with that company.

Re: rare colors

I missed out on a yellow respray TWICE. Was for sale on here at one time, I talked to the guy on the phone twice and was about to drive up and get it on a Weekend but someone came with cash and he gave it to them first.

I notice the same car on Craigslist even cheaper a few months later, e-mailed about it immediently but it was already gone... Thats fate I guess.

Was a Pearlie originally and hte jams werent done, but it was a yellow with a black top like someone mentioned and it looked great, especially for 600 bucks.

Re: rare colors

Its kinda weird, recently I was thinking that there is only a small handful of different colors of the SVX, my fav so far I have seen is the red and Laguna Blue. Around here ive on;y seen one pearl, one red, one green (not sure the real color), and 2 silvers one being mine. I once saw a black one in Portland. But never seen any olther colors in person.

Re: rare colors

anyone have the factory paint codes for the yellow and "graphite or dark grey mica" colors?

-Bill

p.s. the yellow reminds me of the old "corvette yellow" color. I used it on my '68 Camaro.

Bright Yellow is code 518. This is a solid paint colour, it's not metallic or pearl.

Dark Grey Metallic is 222, and as the name suggests is metallic.

I've been looking at them and for them for a while, but I have not yet seen all colours in person, eyeball to eyeball.

I have seen:

Claret & Black code 265, my first SVX
Liquid Silver, black roof with lower grey trim, code 215, I have a couple of them [JDM]
Dark Gray Metallic, 222, a big favourite.
Ebony, 235, seen a few, have one.
Liquid Silver & Black, 249, have a couple.
Pearl White & Black, 267, I want one.
Barcelona Red with Black Roof, 372, UK colour. Great combination.
Light Silver Metallic, code 406, looks nice, all over colour.
Dark Teal, code 269, not as nice in the metal as I expected.
Emerald Pearl, code 434, ditto.
Polo Green Pearl, code 517. Didn't think I'd like it, but lovely, great interior.
Bright Yellow, code 518. Eyecatching, hard to miss.
Bright [or Brilliant] Red, code 559. Suits the car, tends to get UV fade.

That leaves a few I have not seen in the metal.

They are:

Red Mica/Ruby Mica & Black, code 235, a big favourite.
Laguna Blue, code 389, love to see one for real.
Bordeaux Pearl, code 487.

To me, all the colours are pretty good, only a couple I'm iffy about. I've bolded the ones I like the most.

Joe

Re: rare colors

I'm not convinced they actually made a yellow one... has anyone seen the plate on the shock tower that actually has the color code on it? Where did you get that color code? So, we're thinking there is an actual yellow USDM svx? That would be strange, especially since none of the color matched parts are available in yellow to my knowledge.

There is no yellow usdm, they were saying the ones in the US are resprays...

Re: rare colors

Right right, I meant to say factory, sorry I've got my mind on transmissions... but I still would like to see a picture of the shock tower plate with factory yellow. If for no other reason than to dispel the idea that it is a myth.

Re: rare colors

I don't care if they came from the factory or not. I want to respray mine in a nice, not too bright or pastel-y yellow color, but with the black roof and trunk found on the two tone models. Now that's my idea of a sexy car.

Ive ever only seen one bright Red SVX and that was SURTEESS car.
always wanted a red one with tan trim or my most fav was hairys SVX when I checked it out at the car sales yard the 2 times it was for sale

You're welcome Bill.

You are right, the Bright Yellow reminds me of the old Corvette colour too.

Nifty

You are really not keeping up to speed at all.

First, there is all that Subaru promotional material with pictures of the Yellow cars, which is the reason owners opt to respray their cars in this shade.

Second, John and I researched all of this at length, using feedback from the actual owners and using Subaru brochures from all markets with colour options listed, and the result of all this research is in the How To Documents under Paints and Colors.

Stay awake in the back there!

Joe
