Some tranny Q's (97 Outback)
Alrighty, I've got a bunch:
Background: A friend blew a head gasket in his 97 Outback a few weeks ago, so he bought a JDM motor and trans from a guy in Montreal. We swapped in the motor and trans, motor runs perfect, but the car shudders like death all the way through first gear. The other guy who helped with the swap is a licensed tech, while I'm just a wrench turner, so naturally what I say isn't really listened to. They're trying to chase down phantom electrical gremlins, I think the new trans that came with the motor has a different diff gearing than the original, and since the rear diff wasn't changed, the car now has two different ratio diffs in it. When the FWD fuse is in everything is smooth (further supporting my theory). SO, questions. 1. Can someone tell me what these trans codes are? Can you tell from them what the diff gearing is? TZ102Z2CBA-DT TZ102Z1AAA-CC 2. In the older subies that have that FWD fuse, what amp rating should the fuse be, and how long is it safe to run the car in FWD only? Thanks!

Re: Some tranny Q's (97 Outback)
The first trans looks like a 444
The second is most likely a 4.11 The fuse for any FWD in any Suby is 10a rating. not that it really matters since all it does it close a circuit to the sol. C. Granted more than 10amps flowing may damage the solenoid or circuit but the fuse wouldn't be causing this. So in short a 10a fuse should be used tom |
