Cool ECU tuning JDM vs USDM

I wanted to draw attention to this spreadsheet from the "Memory Dump" thread. That thread is very long now and interesting stuff gets buried in geek talk.

Anyway, it is a comparison of the stock tuning between USDM and JDM cars. I was hoping that the engine tuning guru's amongst you might utter some words of wisdom.

(You have to unzip it and view it in excel, then click on the tabs at the bottom of the sheet.)

Phil.

It'd be interesting to put the ECUTune Stage 1 and 2 maps beside these ones....

good luck LAN has good reasons not to share his tuning maps in especially since Budfreak had plans to copy his chips and sell them on his own...

Besides that he supplied several maps of the stage 3 here

ECU tune graphs

Tom
I'm sure he has - that has nothing to do with me. I was merely interested..... Thanks for the link. Not much of a comparison though - only in terms of shapes of the image. LAN doesn't give graph values on those examples - for the reasons that are now quite clear!

Stage 3 is not available to most of us, and 1 & 2 not to anyone outside the US (bar buying a US ECU) - which by the look of the tuning map, is quite different to mine. Maybe the stage 1 map is similar to the JDM map?????? bwah hah hah hah hah..(sesame st)

Hi Tom,

Interesting what you said about Budfreak. At one time, he did inquire about buying one of my spare interfaces. But to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he just wanted it for diagnostics on his customer's cars.

For the record, I have no intention of copying or publishing LAN's chips. But one of my objectives is to figure out and publish how the factory ECU works, as an aid to anyone who wants to do their own ECU mods. This information is already known to many tuners, since the SVX software is just the Impreza/Legacy software modified to handle an extra 2 cylinders.

It's nice to see that the factory maps published by LAN match exactly with the ones I extracted from Nomake's ECU dump. It shows that we're looking at the right data.

Talking to Graham a while back, the guy in the UK who built the first supercharged SVX. He said that the factory ECU worked just fine for the fairly low level of boost he was running at that time. I don't yet have the maps from a UK car, but I guess they are more similar to the JDM ones than the USA ones.

With regard to the fuel maps, I picked up a clue from an impreza website that the value of 128 on the Z-scale represents the 14.7:1 ratio. Higher values are richer, lower are leaner.

Here's another difference. This is an 8x8 map at location 8F50. I haven't figured out what it does. The Z scale goes from 0 to 100, so maybe it's a percentage.

In the USDM car it scales to 4000rpm, but it's 3000 rpm on the JDM car and the load axis scales higher.

First I'm going to say 92, I don't like the tone of this post. After the Budfreak business we mods have decided to hand out more yellow cards earlier, so that more people will qualify for banning, in the hope that they moderate their posting aggression. Or they will get banned in due process.

This is not an official warning, just something you should be aware of.

Second, the person who most helped Budfreak get banned is Jason. His refusal to change his posting behaviour when requested. The extreme latitude he allowed himself to get angry with other members, in public.

So if you have a crow to pluck with Tom, email him or PM him. Don't chuck out smart comments of this type in public. The Budfreak business is CLOSED!

Joe

Whoa... I was merely posting one of many reasons why LAN won't help us in this case... When there is someone who wants to copy his work, I would begin to hide it too. Just so happen Jason was the one who had plans to do so.

Ni he sin "jumping your hide", a chara.

I've always dreaded that song lyrically and musically, although I sing it and respect what it represents. It is chauvinistic, jingoistic and wildly militaristic, and this to represent a country that sat out World War 11 and tries to be more neutral than Switzerland

If you look at any national anthem, they tend to be the same I suppose, but it does not make it right.

Hey, maybe it's digital bullets we are dodging, now that we are big exporters of software?

I don't know Phil.

All I understand is the Irish part.

[It's the words [lyrics] for the Irish National Anthem.]
