A/C question

Shoul I add the oil first or the Refrigerant? Or Does it matter

I don't know what did you mean by "oil"?

Are you talking about "stop leak" oil?

You need to give more info then people can give you better opinions.

First, based on your profile, yours SVX is 92? So do you know has it been converted to R134a freon yet? If it's not, you may need to convert it first, then you can put new freon in.

But again I think there's some freon which is compatible with both, so it's depended on what you get.

R134 requires PAG oil and the R12 oil is not compatable with R134.

I've tried RedTek which is supposedly compatable with both R12 and R134 but it didn't last for long.

Other way around. The older(92-93) svx's are R-12, which technically can only be recharged by a service station, in the range of around $140-150. 134-A on the other hand, is 20$, and you can do it yourself, and it's quite easy. Putting 134-A into an R-12 system can distroy the system, so be SURE which you have. My 92 has been converted to 134-A, and the rings on my 94 are shot, so it doesn't hold the gas. Soon enough i plan to replace the rings though, so i can have 2 cars with AC.

thread hijack:

when i removed my intake manifold i had to disonnect those two hoses going into the AC compressor, letting all the Suva (134a) out of the fittings. All I have to do is just recharge the system with the refridgereant, correct?

Your supposed to vacuum the system first, and hten fill it with 134-A, due to the fact that the gas and atmosphere mixing forms a highly combustable gas, however my 92 retro-fitted to accept 134-A was not vacuumed before it was pumped, and it works fine. Depends on who you ask really.
