Car wont start

Well the day came when my car will not start. It is stuck at a post office parking lot, I am trying to figure out what to look for to see what I need to get to get it started and bring it home. Basically you turn the key and all the lights will come on and it will make a clicking noise but it wont start. My husband said when it died, it made a sound like it turned but then it died and when he tried again it just made the clicking noise it is making right now. Any ideas?

Did it die or did it just not start when he came out to use it?

I'm thinking loose connections or starter contacts worn out.

It died. It did try to start at first but then it died and then it just started clicking. We just tried to jump it and it still makes the clicking noises. I kinda thought starter because sometimes the starter makes whining noises when you try to start it.

I gather the weather is cold, could simply be a sad battery. Do not jump to expensive conclusions until someone with technical ability, who you can trust, checks it out.

It was in fact the starter. We did a parking lot install and drove it home.
