Air-ride suspension fact or fiction

I just had my transmission rebuilt and the guy at the shop says he's worked on several SVXs before. He swore that he had seen one or two that had an air-ride suspension and that they had an option for raising and lowering the hight of the car about 8 inches. I thought he was insane, but i figured i would ask on here. Has anyone else heard of such an option?

Nope, he's just another "professional" mechanic that knows nothing.

I think he got a little confused... XT6's and some other Subaru's had air struts, but they were never available for the SVX.

And even on the cars that they were available on (XT's XT6's, 1st Gen Legacys), they NEVER raised them 8".....more like 2"

Sometimes when I tell people SVX they think "SVT".
Sometimes they are let down when I tell them it's not a Mustang.

Chances are he's exaggerating and getting confused with XTs.

The early Liberty 89/92, we got here had air suspension.
Yes raised to the full 2", as you drove faster, it suddenly sunk to normal, till you slowed down,,,,,,, then up she popped again.

No wonder every one replaced them with spring struts.

It would be neat though to see an SVX move up and down 8 inches all on it's own. For a few seconds.

Let's not forget they made a vehicle that wants to nothing but ESCAPE from them, and another one that wants to jump off the EDGE to get away.

would it be possible to get air struts that would fit the svx? that would serve the 2" drop/rise that the early liberty had.

I'm sure I can come up with funny names for just about any vehicle that doesn't just use a random series of letters/numbers for its name, someone should pay me to do that!

Possible? Probably. Worth it? No. The air suspension system on cars is too convoluted.
