MyTransmission Fluid Filter escaped?

Hi Fellow SVX Lovers, did many searches and much reading before attempting to change fluid and filter today. My filter under battery tray has escaped and could not be found anywhere after draining only about 4 qts of fluid off from the tranny. Had no choice but top off with 4 qts of fresh and return home to post this plea!!! I did drop the belly pan and followed the fluid lines, where is filter? Nonexistant I say! I could swear I read of an external filter on this site somwhere. Svx is a 97 with 157000 on it and runs fine. Fluid is not pink but 4 qts cleaner. Someone got some pics or please direct me for further education. Thanks, ARED 97

If your car had a Subaru external filter, you couldn't miss it; it's a canister that looks very similar to the fuel filter, mounted inside the frame directly below the battery. But a '97 wouldn't have one unless it was installed by a previous owner.

Recall Filter

Dcarrb is right, this was a retro-fit.

I'll be putting a Perma-Cool on in the Spring.

How to documents has the location for you.
