Head light level Adjustment?
Seems like my lo-beams are aiming bit lower and I've tried to adjust with those screws right next to the lo-beam housing, but didn't change.... Am I supposed to turn way more?? Or was I turning wrong screws?? I thought those were the level adjustments. If anyone could explain how to adjust the level, that'd be great!
Thanks.

The little levels on my headlights are broken so I just do it by the "drive the car up against a garage and use the door to adjust them"

Driveway isn't flat, but you can stand in front of the car and see how high up your legs the light shines
And then level them against the garage door. |

You guys are way too scientific about this. Just make sure it is dark, then put on your favorite baseball cap (or fishing cap if you live in the South). Turn on your car's bright lights and walk fifteen long paces directly in front of the car (it is important that the engine isn't running). Turn and face the car covering your eyes with your forearm. Squat. Tip your cap's brim forward (put it on right, not backward, idiot) until the light doesn't make you squint. If you can still see part of the car your lights are OK. If all you can see is the ground you need to raise them a bit. Give it a try.

Make sure your car is level, use a level on the door sill. Check that the bubble on the settings of your head lights correspond with the level on the sill. If you want higher beams (bubble should be more towards the front of the car), If you want lower beams (bubble should be more towards the back of the car). Try all the screws one at a time to see if it affects the bubble. Then set as desired.

how do you see the light if your forearm is covering your eyes...then tipping the cap lower wouldn't mean anything....hmmm I guess I should try it....
Um..why turn the engine off?.... |

Sorry I was able to adjust the lo-beam angle by those screws... I just used power screw driver this time. If you use it, it's so easy to adjust. Now my hi-beam and fog lights are aiming too high... Hope there are separate adjustments?

The fog lights can be adjusted but you must open up the headlight assembly to do so

Here's what Subaru and Chilton say.
1. Park vehicle on level ground about 25 ft. from a flat wall and remove any heavy objects from the cargo area. 2. Check tire pressure is correct. 3. Make certain that the vehicle's gas tank is full and that someone is seated in the driver's seat. 4. Bounce the vehicle several times to normalize the suspension. 5. If not using the gauges switch on low beams. The vertical height of the light beams above the ground should be 4 in. less than the distance between the ground and the centre of the lamp lenses for the lights. 6. Use a suitable wrench or socket to adjust the level indicator nut at the end of the level. 7. If using the level the bubble should not deviate from centre of the sight glass more than 2 marks vertically and one mark horizontally. Last edited by SVX_MY_BABY; 11-14-2006 at 07:20 AM. |

Hey thanks for the instruction in detail! I just aimed/adjusted till I feel comfortable driving at night. Not perfect and correct way to do it though.
