Classic SVX
Radio

I've got a 92 balck and I was complaining about the radio to my son, the cd player just doesn't cut it. So he says, 'You know, I think that I have one laying around in the garage that you can have.' Well, he had a pioneer 6500 with the brains for XM and a 12 disc cd player that goes in the trunk.

So, I went home and pulled the old radio out which was like giving birth to a 15 lb baby. Jeez, what a pain in the butt. By the way, the edges of the radio cage are very sharp - take my word for it.

I went to stick the new radio in and found that the pioneer radio wiring harness was missing. Called my boy and he said that he didn't think that I'd need that part and threw it away. What a freak. So, I ordered a new one and while I was at it I saw that the radio originally came with a remote control so I ordered it too. Then I splurged and ordered a forward connector for the SVX so that I wouldn't have to cut any of the original wires. Who knows, I may want to go back original someday.

I also ordered a pocket for the empty space balow the radio from Crutchfield. I had some problems with that but crutchfield promptly sent me a new one. The pocket was cut wrong from the factory.

Next I confronted the issue of soldering or crimping the wires. I went with crimping. What can I say, I'm lazy and I only have two hands.

Time to put the radio in. I approached with some trepidation because of the difficulties that I had getting the thing out. Holy crap!!! It slid in like a hand into a glove. Everything lined up the first time. The pocket is a din rail mount so I was able to reach in and put the wires where I wanted them with ease. The radio cover even worked better than it did before I took the original out.

Now the good part. Because the install went so smoothly I decided to go for a ride. It was awesome. I hit the VA parkway near roanoke and just drove. I logged about 300 miles. The music and sound was great. The scenery was even better with all of the fall colors. And the handling of the car, what can I say, days like this are why I own this beast.

I'm jealous of your install part of it.....I had one heck of a time trying to hold all the bulky wires out of the way to put the cage back in...It took me awhile and some cut up hands, but I got it too. A major PITA.

Glad you like the sounds. Enjoy your ride.
