I wanna' get FAT!!
What is the widest tire that will fit on the svx without major mods? How about with minor mods?
Has anybody installed really wide tires on the rear and slightly narrower on the front.?? |

I think having two different tire sizes for the front and back causes our transmissions to break sooner. I know thats true for different diameters, but not sure for tire "wideness". Might want to look at some other forums before you do that just to make sure. Probably save you some money and grief

We run 275's on the racer, as does SVXride. But both cars took a good bit of trimming to get them to fit.
I think 245 is about as big as you're going to run without issues. And as Crysis mentioned if the diameter doesn't match front to rear, you're going to kill your AWD.

Yeah, what Dave said! -Bill p.s. you might be able to fit 255/40 (if you could find them in 16") with just the right offset, negative camber and stiffer springs...

ESP for me. Dave and Ben run the "RaceCar" in FP. There is no restriction on the width of the tires in either class. The Camaros in ESP are actually running 315s! -Bill

what about the max width for the 50 offset RX-7 rims? I dont thin that I'm allowed to roll the fenders in the STX class

I've been running in STX all year in Detroit Chris. 17" wheels push me into STX. STI boys just keep selling their wheels and used tires too cheap for me to pass up.

( Man o man I lust for 315s, ) Ok, lets forget the racing rules for now.
Supposed I used a wider (not different diamenter) tire/ wheel combo on the rear. The nature of the awd on the svx is not a solid mechanical link. It seems that the only effect would be a slight bias to the rear (more traction)and light under steer. Anyway, I think it would look cool Please give me your opinions. Ive been shopping for an svx for five years now, and sooner or later its gonna happen. Wants--97 Lsi under 70,000 mi. Buget--up to 11,000. |

Personally, I don't think the SVX will look right with staggered tires (but hey, I've been wrong before ). The problem you're going to run into is that the rear wheel wells just don't support taking all that much out of the stock offset. I'm running 38mm offset with my 9" wide rims and 275/45 Hoosiers and I had to move the fenders out 1.5" to keep them from cutting up the tires. I had to move the front fenders out 1" to keep them from cutting. My guess is that you could stick with a 55 mm offset for the front and go with a 42mm in the rear and not have to tweak the fenders. 245s all around and you keep your trans in one piece and still have a slightly different look....
