The TC should only lock at 50 MPH once u have been at that speed for a second or two and the ATF temp is enough for the TC to lock up...i think its 150 degrees. Because the SVX tranny shifts to 4th gear so early i usually keep her in 3 untill 60 MPH.

Idunno.
I ask because my TC has not locked since the tranny overhaul, but today I was cruising for about 2 miles at around 45-50, then BAM rpms dropped to 1500 and my exhaust was growling. Just want to know if my TC locked or if I just hit 4th and it felt different than usual.

That was probably the TC locking up. I dont think it was 4th gear being weird.

Pulling 1900~2000 rpms today in 4th.
Still confused about the tc situation, but I can safely say it did lock yesterday. I'm gonna throw a piece of cardboard in front of the cooler to see if it will warm up and cure the whatever that's happening.

Not so much big as it is effective, especially without the a/c condensor taking up space.

Maybe the symptoms are caused by only one side of your throttle body opening. Let's really try to figure out if you even have a problem, what that problem is if you do, and then we can discuss solutions if necessary. If you just keep imagining problems the way you do, guessing how the car works, and then trying to 'solve' these imaginary problems with your car's imaginary systems, you'll never get anywhere. By the way, a simple way to tell if your torque converter has locked is dipping and lifting the throttle slightly. If the TC is locked, the RPMs will stay perfectly steady. If it isn't, they'll rise and fall a little. Simple as that. I encourage you to read up on the basics before you start guessing at solutions to imaginary problems. You clearly don't understand how a torque converter works. That's fine - my wife doesn't, either, and I love her to death. But if you don't know how it works, you're just making stuff up as you go along. I feel like I write the same thing in every one of your threads, man.

The situation: My tc does not lock. I failed my last emissions test, possibly an idling problem. These are the only two problems I think I have right now. Let's look at some facts: My transmission was just completely overhauled less than 4000 miles ago. I have a tranny cooler installed, isolated from the radiator. It's very cold in Alaska, even though it was around 35 degrees today, the day after winter solstice. I've ran on the highway everwhere from 45 to 80mph for extended periods since the overhaul. No locky. Alaska no longer stocks anything above 90 octane fuel, 1 point lower than recommended. I'll keep coming up with imaginary problems and solutions to them until I get some decent advice or a reputable [archived] source of advice.

Funny I thought you just wanted to berate me some more because I obviously know nothing concerning automotive engineering or even basic maintenance.
