Beav. Not all mechanics are as honest and hardworking as you are. I've worked at a shop that if they screw something up they take care of it. (someone put the wrong oil filter in a box, then a different person put that oil filter on a car, thinking it was the one the box said it was, resulting in the filter falling off, and the engine seizing. solution? free motor, no hassle, half as many miles on the new motor, and a formal apology by the 'owner') (oh yeah.. and guess what.. this customer still brings all of their cars to that shop)
however i've also been in the case where the shop owner is speaking complete and total BS.. and i know it. Theres too many of this type of shop owner, and that makes people very apt to jump to conclusions. its not right, but it happens.

commuter, will the c-clamp method work if the tone ring is still in place? Will you risk putting a crack in it?

alright, I got the wheel studs out. BUT I broke the abs ring. I smacked it to hard and it broke, and also the damn rotor wouldnt come off. So I just hammered those 2 out and put the new ones, put a little grease on all of the studs and torqued it to 75 ft lbs. Now I have to change that damn abs ring and I havent even touched the rear stud!!!!!!! Should I change the whole front knuckle? I dont know how to take out the front hub, anyone do this before?
