Affordable Aluminum Billet Dash Kit?
Fellow SVXers,
I've seen an 'aluminum billet dash kit' installed on an SVX belonging to a member of this Forum that looks great. I was wondering if any of you know of an online store that sells the above mentioned kit for an honest price. I don't feel like paying $200+ for a dash kit, since for that price I can go pay a visit to Mike and pick up a Stage I v4 chip (which on the other hand is worth every penny). I've looked on eBay but at the moment nobody is selling any type of SVX Dash Kit. Thank you in advance! Walter

Dayle's shop (Motorsport Warehouse) is the only place I know of that sells an aluminum dash kit. The only problem is that the fit around the buttons doesn't look that great. The fake wood is visible because the button indications are "written" on it, and need to be exposed.

I wouldn't have bought the kit from that store even if it looked perfect, because as I said $200 for such an item is a very high price, at least in my opinion. But then again by judging at several other items sold on that site which can be found on eBay and other sites for 40-60% less, I wonder whether the prices advertised on it are in Canadian dollars? If anybody else knows of a shop that makes aluminum billet dash kits for our cars, please let me know! Thanks, Walter

every so often
I put a kit on ebay usually with a lower reserve
then what retail is on the site. With any kit your going to see a minor amt of area around pcs's thats exposed. I have some other pics of our kits installed. Email me if you want to discuss a kit and Ill see what I can do. 1 thing to mention is, the kit started out a few yrs ago as an 18pcs kit, its NOW like a 23 pcs kit and our price hasnt gone up, if anything we have tried to lower it for everyone.

Yeeesh. I feel your pain, that looks awful. This is why I've never like stick on dash kits. Sure, the quality might be nice, but it's never going to cover up all the faux wood, especially considering you NEED to leave all the lettering exposed in order to read the buttons at night.

Its not all that bad
and alot of it has to do with how you install it.
Its important to keep the gaps even thruout while Many people Ive found buying the kits are trying another idea we had That was to wet sand the plastic parts first lightly then put a small coat of grey or flat black paint mainly on the outter edge of each pcs or basically where any exposed wood would be. Youd find out where this is by test fitting each piece. After the areas are painted and dried, install your kit. I was thinking about doing it on my next project car but so far it hasnt bugged me all that much and its still more attractive then the fake wood. Joe, take off that Harley steering wheel cover and let me sell you a nice leather cover instead, Ill even make you a sweet deal on one just so you can take it off.

Although smaller gaps would still be nice, especially if the button text could be covered with the kit and them still visible, the kits over a black/plain dash would look better. I have seen them over black dashes and they don't loo too bad... that darn wood grain just sticks out too much and makes it look chinsy. Dayle's idea of sanding the edges and painting them black sounds like a good one.
