That's a GTS correct? As for price with the STi the new Evo MR is just about as expensive with less power and a harsher ride. The steering is quicker, which is good at Laguna Seca, bad in traffic. The RS is the cheaper lighter one. I believe the MR is the only one available with a 6 speed. The brakes could be upgraded relatively easily. Of course so could the Evo. I think the STi is better looking, especially from the rear. The view most people will get!

Nice! That crystal grey looks amazing!

My local dealer had one on their lot for a few months until some young kid bought it (with his folks accompanying him of course). I was at the dealer picking up a part when he was taking delivery...

That's the kicker - on one of the last pages of the article, they dyno'd both cars and the Evo made more power to the wheels!

I plan to cross-shop both cars. When I get my next car will depend on a few factors pertaining to buying a house within the next year. Once that's out of the way, I'll be looking to get into another car. I've always changed cars every 1-2 years since I was 18...

If I do get the Evo MR and we have a chance to meet up, you can definitely take it for a drive.

they are both cars,, from my experience and know how on both cars, and verry familier with both engines

its simple

if u wanna keep a car stock and fast go with a sti
if u wanna a fast car that u wanna modify go with the evo 8

the sti engine is complicated, new and hard to tune,
the evo engine has been around for along long time, and verry capable of lots of power and good times

the sti has more goodies also

also a 3rd option maybe a regular wrx

mine ran low 13s with only 2,000$ in engine mods, might wanna think of that also,

as for the volvo, its just asking for trouble,, expensive for everything,

hope that helps some in your decesion

Cobb AccessPort - loads downloaded maps easily into the stock ECU. add a turboback exhaust, new turbo, etc, and easily upgrade the ECU to handle the new mods. going to the shop - load in the valet map. parking at the airport - load in the anti-theft map.

EASY to tune.

if you have the money, Easy Street will return your STi with over 1000hp.

I pretty much agree with everything you mention. While they're performance mods available for the STI, they aren't as plentiful or as inexpensive yet as compared to the EVO.

I don't plan on modding my next car too much as I will buy one with a ton of power from the factory. What I like about the STI and EVO is that their limited edition models. The EVO MR in that titanium grey just looks killer though...

The Volvo will be more expensive to maintain in the long run. Maybe it'll be a good car for me after Law School.

What still gets me is the string of names and cryptic alphanumeric codes we attach to car names. It started in Japan and now everyone's doing it.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR

and now even the Americans:

Pontiac Grand Prix GTP CompG
Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 Firehawk

Why?

I was at Island Dragway in NJ (*shudder*) last friday night...there was a modded EVO there running consistent 13.0s...the ricer crowd was all about that. Then some guy showed up in a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI (completely stock looking) and ran 12.4 on his first pass next to the EVO. Everyone got quiet real quick. Now that impressed me.

Then 5000 mustangs proceeded to run 14s and 15s for the rest of the night.

After looking at and sitting in the EVO, i'd take an STI anyday regardless of the power level. Plus very few cars look as cool (for a 4-door) in blue. It's not always just about the power. If you want a car only for the strip...then it is (but then it's stupid to pay $30000 for a factory racer when you can pay $5000 for an older car and spend the other $25000 making it WAY faster than the factory car), but otherwise the car that offers the better overall package should be the winner.

The best Evo was the 5th. The new one looks like a Pontiac Sunfire. If you can't see the resemblance your biased. And the STi looks ALOT better from the back.

I love the Evo 5 as well. I always race with that Evo over the 6 in Gran Turismo 2...

Honestly, both the USDM EVO and STI look great IMHO. The Evo has more interior space which is a plus for my family (wife currently drives a base Lancer ES). I just like the MR edition due to its exclusivity, the special plate/badges, and the awesome grey color!!!

-Chike

P.S. Plus 0-60 in 4.7s ain't bad at all for a 35K car.
