STI problem already

We just got a STI in with 790 miles and a fried computer. The car would run fine for a few minutes, then without warning the engine would shut off. It doesn't look tampered with so I don't think the problem was caused by an aftermarket chip or anything.

WEIRD!

I was expecting to hear that it was transmission problems. The ones we were driving at the ride and drive had terrible tranny issues.

Same thing happened at the dealership i work at. I think they had some sort of piggyback chip though.

bad re-flashed ECU? you'd never know. i don't even think the Subaru Select monitor tool can tell. then again, i don't know if anyone has developed a reflash for the STi.....yet.

the 3,4,5th gear syncros in the car i was driving were almost gone. You can hear them making noise in a video i have of driving the car. I'll try to get it posted.

Yuk. Do you think the tranny badly abused, or were the synchros badly designed?

The cars were driven hard, that's for sure. But we're talking about cars with less than 1000 miles on the odo.

Question

It seems to me as we put more & more power into the various rally image cars that scream "abuse me" to the yout' market they're aimed at, the dealers will be stuck with a steady progression of repairs to do under warranty. Of course, everybody pays the price eventually. What sort of warranties are offered on these pocket rockets, & what type of repair constitutes voiding a warranty?

Ron.
