So I raced a Mustang GT... (twice)
I pulled up next to a new Mustang GT at a stoplight today. I thought for sure that I would get stomped off the line but I was in for a surprise. When the light turned green, I floored it and I got a little head start. He was at my heels for about 1000 feet until I decided to ease up a little bit because I was going about 65 in a 45 and because there was another red light coming up. So I'm at the stoplight and he rolls up next to me. I roll down my passenger window and he rolls down his driver side window. He says, "My traction control was off," so I say, "Then turn it on." About 5 seconds later the light turned green. We're both going at it again and I could hear the burble and growl of his V-8 in my ears. I was ahead the whole time.
Now, I know the 0-60 time of Mustang GTs are about 6 seconds but that would be in ideal conditions (the roads were wet today) with a manual tranny. So, I'm guessing that the GT I encountered had an automatic or, perhaps, he wasn't trying (I personally think he was). Today was a good day. |

You're unquestionably going to have an advantage in the wet - whether he's using traction control (didn't know Mustangs had that) or not. That guy may have had the power advantage, but you had way more traction than he did.

then the mustang technically had the grip advantage, unless he was running on slicks and you were running on rain tires..
he must've had an auto.. -a btw, on a recent cross-country roadtrip, i fell in love with c d'a.. don't know what it was, but i just got a great vibe from the city.. Last edited by alacrity024; 01-11-2004 at 04:16 PM. |

I had some punk in 6 cylinder firebird pull up to me yesterday. He revved a lil bit to let me know he wanted to drag . I played along until the stoplight turned green then i pulled out even slower than i normally would. He took off probably laughing over his assumed victory. I caught up with him about a mile up the road where he was pulled over . I was never so happy to see the Blue Berries and Cherries on top of the car that pulled up behind them. I could'nt resist givin the cop a friendly wave as i passed doin the speed limit.

Ha - nice one. Rule one of fast driving - know your surroundings and trust your gut feeling. There has been may times I've resisted the urge for nothing but a gut feeling and seen the law around the next bend. Many other times I've been about to race and looked in the rearview and seen a cop a few cars back.
On our way to wally mart tonight I had a civic w/ fart pipe race me. I didn't resist this time and handily left him staring at tailights before I even hit the speed limit - where I shut down. I know it ain't even fair to race a honda, but sheesh, he was asking for it - why do people think civics immediately become fast when you slap on some 18's, tint, and a muffler. I even got a grade-A ricer fly-by complete with a rev of his engine as he sped past probably doing 20 over. Kim and I were amazed. I thought they stopped doing those. I'm surprised he didn't put on his hazards after the fly by.

I just looked at Ford's site and there's no mention of traction control for a Mustang GT. I asked a friend (and Mustang fanatic)earlier today and he said that traction control seemed a little 'high tech' for the Mustang.

When i first bought the Supe, mustangs were always trying to race me. They always had excuses as to why they got beat by an 89 toyota 6 cyl, like "oh, my clutch is slipping" or "my cat is clogged (yes, i got that one once, even though the car was a 2k3 )", or the greatest "Im only running 87 octane in it today"...i freakin hate mustangs, thinking theyre the ****...
