SVX-WRX audio swap

Gotta 95 LSi.

My CD player is officially dead.
The guy at Downtown Radio tells me that it will be $650 to repair.
To which I said, "ha-ha, ha, ha, ha-ha."

Can I pull off a straight swap out with a WRX indash changer, or am I asking for trouble?

Whaddya say, gurus?

Thanks,

Big Daddy

I haven't heard of it being done. Doesn't mean it can't. I had once heard that the Impreza changer would work with the SVX head, but, no one has confirmed.

Also, there are several here that have replaced their stock unit. You may be able to pick one up for cheap from another member. The stock unit is around 400.00 new from www.subaruparts.com.

Which part do you need? I don't have the CD part anymore but if you want the top part, mine's up for grabs.

was trying to keep in all Subaru

Thanks, Aredubjay. I will check out that link.
Seraph, thanks for the offer, too.

Thought it might be the best way to go -- just swapping the old AM/FM/Casette-CD stack for a WRX setup. I appreciate the offer of the head unit, but I'm going to pass.

You da man.

I've got both the top and bottom thing from my 92. I think that they both worked perfectly find, but the cd player couldn't handle scratched cds as well as my aftermarket cd player could. It probably needs to be cleaned as I really doubt it has been over the past 11 years. I wouldn't mind selling it to you, but I don't know why you wouldn't want to just go out and buy some sort of nice head unit and replace both the top radio with this, and put in a pocket at the bottom for cd storage in place of the cd player.

Maybe I should break down and buy a Kenwood or something tight

In hindsight, I am probably trying too hard to make something difficult work when I can buy a better deck at a local audio shop and have them sweat the details.

Thanks for the advice, though.

Because some of us are "stick with stock" kinda people and like to keep our cars stock.

me too. these stories of "stock boys" has got me so choked up, I'm willing to let mine go for $649.98 and all the lights work too. OK, so I replaced it because it skips on CD-Rs, I'll make it $649.95...but buyer has to pay shipping.
