Isurance for 5 speed SVX

It was that time of the year and I sent the check to the insurance company.

I just changed them because the last one slowly increased the "premiums " with $200 in the last year without any reason.

I use to read those boring conditions and I notice that I have to anounce the insurance about any car modifications.

I intend to make the 5 speed conversion; so my question is:

Does anybody anounced the modification?
How much was the "premium" increase? I don't assume it was a decrease.

Thanks,

Ovidiu

BE CAREFUL!

In Pennsylvania, if you declare a major modification, such as engine or transmission swap, you may be forced to change the status of your title to 'reconstructed.' This will seriously decrease the value of your SVX. I dont know what the law is like in your state, so I would recommend you take a look and see what your state has to say about this.

I think they're usually looking for modifications that might make the car a higher risk (turbos, NOS, suspension mods, etc.) or more expensive to fix (bodywork, wheels, etc.).

As Mike suggests, it would be smart to investigate to find out what your state law says.

My philosophy has always been that if they aren't real specific, I'm free to make the most advantageous (to me) interpretation I can as long as it's defensible. In my opinion, a 5-speed shouldn't increase the risk or the repair cost, but my opinions and the law have often been at odds.

Be sure you don't intentionally mislead your insurer. They can be pretty brutal when they feel they've been defrauded, and their pockets are probably deeper than yours. If yours are deeper than theirs, would you be interested in adopting me?

I run the bare minimum liability on my 5-speed , so the insurance company doesn’t care what mods it has….I could strap a booster rocket on it for all they care.

...........Booster Rocket now that'd up the quarter mile times!

I'd call your agent and ask this same question.
