How to manually roll down window?

Is there a way to roll down the window while the door is off the car? I want to remove the glass and motor on a junk door and I believe it has to be down for it to come out.

Re: How to manually roll down window?

The easiest way is to use a battery. I've used cordless drill batteries and jump packs. There are 2 wires going to the motor. + to one and - to the other will go up, reverse them and it will go down.

If you have no battery access, if you can unbolt the motor from the regulator, you can then push the window around.

Can use a car battery or is it safer to use a smaller one. I am assuming a 12 volt is what I should be looking for?

Re: How to manually roll down window?

Glad it worked. For reference though, a car battery will work, it's just more manageable to use a smaller battery.

Re: How to manually roll down window?

Drill batteries are great for testing power accessories before buying them at the pull-it-yourself junkyard. Most won't let you bring in a car battery or jump pack so a drill battery is a great option.

Re: How to manually roll down window?

+1 for the drill battery idea, I've never thought of taking one to the junkyard for testing. Great idea
