limp home mode
Could someone explain the characteristics of Limp Home Mode? I think that may be what's happening when it won't shift past second but it's not giving me any codes.

Re: limp home mode
It only happens occasionally. Usually after driving for a while...once it's hot.

Re: limp home mode
Other characteristics of Limp mode are:
-check engine light on. -fans on high constantly, as long as the car is on the fans are on. As a matter a fact as even if you have the key in the ECU/ON position your fans may even stay on. |

It could be that when the fluid is still cool, its able to grip the clutch but once it heats up it is just slipping. Check your trans fluid and see what kind of shape its in. |

Re: limp home mode
OK. thanks for that guys. I know it's definitely not limp mode then. I'll check on the trans fluid.

Re: limp home mode
My car is aussie so it might be different but I connected up a dud TCU from the wreckers which was probably completely non-functional and 3rd gear was constant, after 3 mins of driving check engine light on and fans running on high.

Re: limp home mode
I'm afraid I have to aggree with nate. At this point it should still be a good candidate for a partial rebuild--though you are probably scarring your reverse clutch drum. I can usually salvage them. If you keep driving on it though you may suffer a thrust bearing failure before it completely stops on you.

Re: limp home mode
Well it's not that big a deal to me. I got all the pieces and I'm getting ready for a MT swap as soon as I have time. I was wondering mostly cause that will affect if I can sell the old trans. And because the swap won't be for a few months probably and it has to last till then.
