so last night I'm driving up to Melis's and it starts.... First the radio starts turning on and off.... then the cruise control cancels.... then the gauges start drooping.... then I can't accelerate....

Off to the side of the highway and call Melis... She comes down and picks me up and runs me home to grab another battery and one of the alternators I have in the basement. I take all three to advance to get tested before I do the side of the highway swap. The counter guy was somewhat impressed that I had three spare alternators for a car. I didn't mention the 2 spare Legacy alts, or the 4 spare XT6 alts, or the 2 spare Brat/GL alts....

So he proceeds to test and ALL THREE FAIL
I'm not sure if his machine is busted or what, but we're running late for previous plans so we run back to my place and grab the alt out of Melis's car. Back up to my SVX, stick her battery and alt in my car and off we go.

I'll be dropping off one of the alts for a rebuild on Monday morning. As for the other three, I'll probably try them at AZ to see if the Advanced tests were wrong. After that I'll be searching out the thread to rebuild them on my own

Progress

Well, I went to the subaru parts/dealer this morning. Luckily I'm in with the guy runnin the joint. Anywho, apparently a guy got one re-maned, but then his tranny blew in the parking lot so he left his SVX for dead.

Long story short, I'm getting it for $150 (plus the $50 core) Better yet, I was talking with some of the mechanics there (they rarely work on SVXi) and they don't believe me that I can pop in the alternator, secure it, and drive away in less than 5 minutes.

The bet's worth 10% off on the part.
