Rear Driveshaft Removal
Time to address that shudder that only happens taking off from a standstill. From all I have read here, U-Joints are the likely culprit.
Any advice on pulling the rear drive shaft that might not be covered by the Haynes manual? I don't want to wear fluids or get in over my head!

If you remove the front part of the drive shaft from the transmission. Transmission fluid can come out.

I did it with my entire exhaust system removed, so there was a lot of room to work. Before you remove the shaft, mark with paint or something where the driveshaft is oriented with the rear diff so you can put it back on in the same orientation. I took off the bolts from the read diff first, then the center carrier bearing bolts. Then slid the shaft out of the transfer case.
Good luck. |
